In Kent County, Michigan the court holds an annual Adoption Day. While adoptions are usually private, the event turns them into a celebration, promoting foster care and adoption.
In 2019, 37 children and their new families took part and one little boy wanted to make sure his whole family got to take part.
Kindergartener Michael Clark Jr. was officially adopted by Andrea Melvin and Dave Eaton.

The couple had become his foster parents about a year ago and decided to make it official.
But for Michael, his family contains more than just his new parents.

Dad Dave said , “We asked him and he said, ‘You know, the class is kind of my family.’ And he wanted them to be there.”
And so the entire kindergarten class from Wealthy Elementary in East Grand Rapids was there to cheer Michael on.

They sat to one side with teacher Mrs. McKee, waving hearts on sticks when Michael’s turn came around.
For Mrs. McKee, she saw the opportunity to teach the kids about supporting others.

“The lesson is put a little love in your heart. We rise when we support others,” she said.
