But yesterday, Kelly Ripa made a very unexpected and emotional declaration.
She broke down on the air, lamenting how she isn’t speaking to two of her three children.
Like the rest of us lately, Kelly Ripa has been at home with her family.
The star is bunkered down inside her home, alongside her husband Mark Consuelos and their three children.

As a result, fans have begun to see a much more candid side of Kelly developing over these past few weeks.
Aside from a few obvious details, it’s pretty much the same as it always has been.
The show still has its usual myriad of celebrity guests who have been appearing via live stream.
Recently, they spoke with Jewel about the realities of homeschooling.
Kelly and Ryan had Ty Burrell stop by to chat about *Modern Family* and his charity work.
Ty explained how he was working alongside the Mayor of Salt Lake City to help provide aide to the restaurant industry.
They had a blunt (and hilarious) conversation with Tracy Morgan about his appreciation for healthcare workers.
Tracy explained that his love for medical professionals began from the moment he was born.
“You appreciate the doctors. Because when you was born and you got delivered – that doctor could’ve dropped you on the floor.”

The star spoke about how her main concern was the safety of everyone in attendance.
Especially since both she and her fiance have elderly grandparents.
But then yesterday, something happened that was not only unscripted but very unexpected.
Kelly began by saying that she was going to let Seacrest in on a little secret.
It’s plain to see that Ryan wasn’t prepared for what was about to happen.
Kelly flatly told her co-host “I’m currently not speaking to two of my three kids.”
Seacrest was clearly taken aback by the news and was visibly shaken.
He did his best to roll with the punches and enquired why Kelly seems to be having trouble at home.
The star’s reply was not only vague but cryptic.
“Because… Just because…we’re all in this same boat together, right? Like, I haven’t gotten to hug my parents. I miss hugging my parents. And my kids won’t hug me.”
Ryan Seacrest clearly tried to steer the conversation, but it was no use.
Kelly’s frustration quickly became impossible to hide. It was clear to see that what started out as nothing more than a light, off the cuff remark, was spiraling quickly.
“I’m like, guys, we’ve all been in lockdown together. We’re fine, you can give me a hug. It’s fine.”
Kelly couldn’t hold back any longer. She began weeping during the broadcast.
Kelly attempted to compose herself and blamed her emotional outburst on a sudden and unexpected onset of PMS.
“Anyway, I’m sorry. I don’t know why I’m crying. Maybe I’m just going to get my period – who knows.”
And it was clear that co-host Ryan Seacrest didn’t have a clue what to say.
He did his best to awkwardly laugh off Kelly’s remark, but his lack of comfort toward the entire situation was clearly beginning to show.
Fans of the show were quick to shower Kelly with support.
Many thought that Kelly’s outburst was not only genuine but it also showcased how vulnerable we all are during these difficult times.
It reminded everyone that we all have someone that we are missing right now.
Parents, brothers, sisters – everyone is missing someone in their life right now.
Kelly’s feelings are totally relatable.
Kelly did her best to recover by changing the subject.
She began talking about how badly she felt for her youngest son, Joaquin, who has been battling anxiety due to the state of the world.
She went on to talk about her father and his knee surgery.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, hospitals everywhere have suspended all non-essential surgeries.
Unfortunately, for people like Kelly’s dad, this means an even longer wait.
After the clip aired, production edited the video so that the graphic would display “Virtual Hug”.
We all need a hug right now.
Kelly’s moment of honesty and vulnerability is the best reminder that we need to value our loved ones.
Of course, there were those who felt less sympathetic toward her plight.

A lot of people thought that the star was being pretty insensitive in the grand scheme of things.
It’s hard not to see the other side of the coin on this one.
Kelly making the proactive decision to not speak to her own children just seems, kind of…childish?
Especially since millions of families are displaced around the world.
One thing is for sure, this issue has certainly shown the discrepancies between those who have it all and those who don’t.
Hopefully in no time, she’ll be able to hug her parents and her kids again.
