There’s a right way and a wrong way to do everything, just ask my fiancee — she’ll tell you. But as it turns out, I’m not the only person who’s been doing simple everyday things incorrectly for his entire life.
You might remember TikTok user @sidneyraz from his viral video about how we’ve all been wearing travel pillows incorrectly. Now, he’s begun sharing even more viral videos of all the tips he wished he knew before he was in his 30s.
For instance, did you know there’s an easy way to ensure you’re putting the fitted sheet on your mattress properly?

I hate fitted sheets. I hate folding them and I most definitely hate putting them on the mattress. It’s inevitable that I always get it wrong the first time. If you’re anything like me, do what Sydney suggests and look for the tags
By always ensuring to line up the tags of the sheet with the left corner of your mattress, you’ll never again have to try in vain to properly apply your bedding.
There’s also a trick you can use to stop oil from splattering in a hot pan.

As someone who spent the bulk of his teen years working the vats and grills at McDonald’s, I can assure you that hot oil is no joke. So if you want to protect yourself and ensure that no hot oil will splash back at you the next time you’re cooking — try adding a pinch of salt to the pan and say goodbye to oil burns forever.
This one is so simple, I can’t believe that I’ve been doing it wrong for over 30 years.
Up until watching Sydney’s video, my method for putting a garbage bag in the receptacle was to shake it out, do this kind of weird shimmy move as I expertly lowered it into the bin — and then fasten the bag around the lid.
What I should’ve been doing (and what I will do from here on out) is to fasten the bag around the lid first and then push it down into the bin. It’s so much easier that way.
Oh, and another thing — did you know that cheese graters lay down?!

I always was perplexed by the design of a cheese grater ; it seemed so impractical! Grating up and down you’ll always inevitably wind up smacking your hand on the counter, not to mention the fact that you have to have a plate or a cutting board underneath.
Not only does Sydney’s method allow for an easy transfer of your delicious cheese of choice — but it also doesn’t make you dirty any dishes necessarily.
I’m not going to lie, this one scared me.

Did you know that your dishwasher has a filter that you’re supposed to clean? I didn’t and now I’m absolutely terrified to go downstairs and into my kitchen. I know that at some point, I’m going to have to look but by god if I’m not terrified to do so.
Don’t even get me started on the filter for my washing machine. At this point, I think I’m going to have to either buy all new appliances or move.
This helpful kitchen tip will make cleaning the microwave a breeze.
All you’re going to need for this one is the juice of one fresh lemon and a cereal bowl. Juice the lemon and put the bowl in the microwave on HIGH for about a minute/minute-and-a-half.
Once the timer is complete, take the bowl out of the microwave and grab your paper towel. You should notice that whatever spillage or stuck-on gunk was plastered to the microwave walls wipes away with ease.
Finally, here’s a perfect hack to help you out at your next BBQ.

Sydney has turned filling the cooler into both an art form as well as a science. What you’ll first want to do is put your box of beers into the cooler upside down . It should also be noted that this only works with cans — do not try it with bottles.
Once the box is in the cooler upside down, fill the cooler with ice all around it. Then, all you have to do is simply lift up the box.
