I’ll admit, I have no idea what it’s like to be a parent . But funny parenting tweets give me a good idea of what it’s like to spend your days taking care of kids . Especially when it comes to things like bedtime.

Kids exist in a vacuum.
You know how when you’re a kid, the school day felt infinite, while the weekend went by in a flash? I think that’s exactly what’s happening to these kids during bedtime.
There’s one monster no kid wants to mess with.
Have you ever met a mom (or any parent really) who’s surviving off little sleep because the kids won’t go to bed? Yeah, scarier than any monster living in your closet or under your bed.
Suddenly that’s all they want.
I may not be a parent, but I’ve been around enough parents to know that kids love to ask for specific things when it’s time for bed. All day they want juice, but once it’s time to actually sleep they suddenly want the stuff that’s actually good for them, and only in a specific way.

Parenting is about choosing your battles.
I can only imagine that bedtime routines are a nightmare. It almost seems like the entire day revolves around getting your kids to go to sleep at some point.
The sun is and will always be your nemesis.
Just like any adult, kids don’t like to sleep when there’s still light out. Sunlight means daytime, which means going outside to play (or staying indoors to play). Ain’t nobody out there who wants to sleep when the sun’s out.
Try not to make it overly complicated.
I’ve babysat before. I know kids have very strange, very specific routines that they have to do before they can sleep. They usually grow out of it, though. If you’re lucky.
The seventh, I’m guessing.
Having to put one kid to bed is pretty tough. Having to put to kids to bed is even harder. Three or more? Yeah, probably not happening.
Movies just aren’t as realistic as they used to be…
I’m sure this is just one of the many scenes in movies that have parents shaking their heads in disbelief. Real children aren’t so well-behaved.
At some point, it sticks.
I feel like this specific tactic is the one used by parents who are just too tired to try and enforce bedtime routines. And to be honest, I don’t blame them.
Kids have a power they only use for evil!
If only we could all use this kind of space and time bending to get more sleep. If there’s one thing most kids and adults can probably agree with, there just aren’t enough hours in a day.

A very good joke on her part, but talking about bedtime too late in the evening is a recipe for disaster. Not that her dad would’ve forgotten, though.

Ah, that poor kid. If only he knew that in less than a decade, he’s going to realize that getting too much sleep is something most of us wish was a problem.
Sometimes, you just can’t help it.
I feel like scaring your kid into not sleeping might not be the best idea, but it is a sort of funny idea, at least. But it’ll be the kid who has the last laugh, when the parents don’t get any sleep, either.
There’s one concept kids pretend not to understand.
Kids love to pretend they don’t know what bedtime is, but that just proves they understand it all too well.

I have to applaud this kid for their trickery. But at the same time, I’d be pretty mad if my hypothetical kid tried this one on me.

Who am I kidding, it’s always going to be a struggle.
And mostly on the parents’ side. Every single day, I wonder how parents get their kids to go to be without losing their minds.
I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, though.
When you really think about it, no one likes bedtime. Not even adults. We keep doing things that’ll keep us up later and later, and then wonder why we’re tired all the time. Sigh …
