With temperatures rising all summer long , staying cool is imperative for everyone. The heat can be totally brutal for many people, and even many animals, too. In fact, with the summer upon us and the sun blasting , it’s just as important for people to keep their pets cool as it is to keep themselves cool. As our pets are pretty much members of the family, we of course want to keep them safe .
A dog’s normal body temperature is much higher than a human’s.

A dog’s normal body temperature is 101 degrees to 102.5 degrees, which is much higher than a human’s normal body temperature. In addition, dogs don’t sweat as humans do, so they can’t really release all of that heat.
Dogs are at high risk for hyperthermia.

During the summer months, dogs are at heavy risk for hyperthermia because if their body temperature hits anywhere above 105 degrees, it can cause organ damage. This can be irreversible and cause lifelong issues in dogs.
Ensuring dogs are cool and hydrated is a start to keeping them safe.

Checking on dogs during hot weather days is the first step to making sure they are cool. In addition, keeping cold water near them and keeping them in air-conditioned locations is important .
Unfortunately, not all dogs are able to be cared for in such a way.

There are dogs that are abandoned and left out in the heat many times, which can put them in a terribly dangerous situation and risk their lives.
Stray dogs oftentimes struggle in the heat during the summer.

When dogs do not have owners or even a shelter to take care of them, they can be alone to fend for themselves in the heat. This is detrimental unless a kind person steps up to lend a helping hand.
Recently, one police officer is being praised online after he made immense efforts to help one pup.

Tennessee Highway Patrol posted on Facebook about a trooper who was able to help a stranded dog in distress on the side of the highway during a very hot day.
A “good samaritan” called in the dog to the highway patrol.

“The dog was on the side of #Interstate75 parched and desperately needing water and shelter from the heat. Now, this sweet pup is being TREATed well at Cleveland TN Animal Control,” they shared on Facebook.
Photos showed the trooper caring for the dog.

In the pictures shared on Facebook, the trooper is sitting in a chair, holding up an umbrella to give the dog some shade while she had some water and snacks that he provided for her.
Many people praised the trooper for his kindness.

“With all the crazy uneasy things going on it good to know we still have AMAZING PEOPLE…. Thank you sir for your service and kindness the fur baby and people you serve and protect are blessed,” shared one Facebook user.
Some even saw the dog and were happy that she was taken care of.

“I passed by him today and wondered what he was doing there I honestly thought something really bad had happened glad to see this . I believe the THP officers are the best in America thanks for all y’all do,” said another.
And, the trooper even changed the dog’s life for good.

In a follow-up post, Tennessee Highway Patrol shared that the trooper and the dog had “hit it off” so well, that he was going to give her a forever home. His family named the dog “Princess” and she’ll be moving in with them for good.
What a happy ending!
