Over the years, several instances of UFO-like bodies appearing in the skies have made the headlines. Recently, another such occurrence was spotted and has since sent people into a frenzy. This time, it was a huge cloud shaped like a flying saucer spotted outside of Palm Springs in California. Interestingly, it shared a resemblance with the mysterious alien life from the movie, Nope . Here are the details of the whole story.
Details Of The Intriguing Sight
In December 2022, Screenwriter Brian Lynch took to social media to share a snap of the life-imitating art he spotted with his family at about 1 p.m., tagging Jordan Peele, the writer and director of Nope . In another chat with SFGate , Brian also shed more light on what he saw. He said, “The cloud was HUGE. It was hanging over us… My kid (who has not seen NOPE ) thought it was really cool.”
How Did The Cloud Relate To The ‘Nope’ Movie?
Nope is a horror sci-fi movie that tells the story of a man and his sister who discover an unidentified flying object. The object looks like a UFO in the skies above their California horse ranch. Meanwhile, the owner of a nearby theme park tries to profit from the mysterious, otherworldly phenomenon.
People Compare The Sight To The ‘Nope’ Movie
Brian’s awe-striking image surprised Twitter users, who took to the comments section to relay Nope jokes. The official IMAX account tweeted, “NOPE,” while another user wrote, “Lol, nope!” Also, Film Producer John Cohen was not left out as he weighed in on the post, replying, “Whoa.”
More From Social Media Users
Another eyewitness and the director of conservation at the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert, Dr. James Danoff-Burg, explained that he spotted the display while giving visitors a tour. According to him, it wasn’t an exceptional day, further noting that the display was a lenticular cloud that looked like stacked pancakes. He further admitted that the group compared the sight to a UFO, adding that it looked quite spectacular.
The Cloud Has Been Spotted A Few Other Times
While the beautiful and intriguing natural sight sparked a wave of reactions, many were stunned to discover it wasn’t the first time such clouds had appeared over the zoo’s nature preserve. During an interview with SFGATE in 2021, National Weather Service Meteorologist Cindy Palmer spoke candidly about the formation of such clouds. According to her, such lenticular clouds typically occur in the winter months.
What Causes Such Clouds To Form?
In Cindy’s chat with the outlet, she revealed such clouds were formed from the wind blowing across hills and mountains. She noted, “You have to have a wind that’s very uniform in one direction. As it’s moving over the mountain and the way the air lifts, the moisture condenses and forms the clouds.”
Jordan Peele Refuses Credit For Another Lenticular Cloud
In July 2022, a week before Nope hit the screens, a Twitter user spotted another UFO-Shaped cloud above Tempe, Arizona, and let tweeps know. In the post, the netizen tagged Jordan, noting that the filmmaker’s marketing strategy was top-tier. However, Jordan refused to take credit as he revealed he wasn’t behind the ominous cloud.
Other Times The Lenticular Cloud Was Spotted
In May 2021, clouds resembling UFOs were spotted in the early evening sky around the San Francisco Bay Area. Images uploaded on social media showed the unusual formations over Walnut Creek, Berkeley, and Concord. As expected, the photos sparked a conversation in the comments, as netizens shared instances where they spotted such clouds.
