15 Controversial Things That Will One Day Be Socially Acceptable

There are many things in society that we see as controversial and not right. Today, they may be somewhat wrong, but in a few years, things can always change. Looking back, things have changed from several years ago. Nowadays, more people are accepted and allowed to be themselves—more than they were able to years ago. So, maybe there is hope for the rest of these, too.

Staying at a mental health facility.

One person commented that as the stigma behind mental health disorders starts to become smaller and more people are open about their struggles, going to a mental health facility may become more normalized than it is now. We can only hope.

Sex work.

Jessicas_Tits_NSFW said that eventually, sex work and things like "Only Fans" will become normalized and acceptable, too. In the end, it's a way to earn a living and fills a need that some people have in society—despite how others may look at it.

Not having kids.

While it is accepted to not have children, there are still people who look down on women who do not have children or want to start a family of their own. One day, people won't even bat an eye that women don't want children—especially because it's so expensive.

Electric cars.

While some prefer monogamy and others prefer polygamy, many think that open relationships will be more acceptable and practiced in the future. Today, there's still a stigma around it, but in the future, it'll probably be a bit more casual.

Prison rehabilitation.

People make mistakes in life and pay the consequences for their choices, like going to prison and becoming felons. But, many hope that prisoner rehabilitation will be more normalized, helping changed people regain their life again.

Gay marriage in countries it's not accepted.

Abortions.

For those who do not know, asexuality is the lack of sexual attraction to others or low interest in sexual activity. While many are asexual, it's not a mainstream label and many do not understand those who are.

Eating bugs.

A commenter mentioned that eating bugs will become normalized because back in the day, lobsters used to be fed to prisoners. In fact, now, lobster is a delicacy and people love to eat it at expensive restaurants. So, many bugs will also become something that people spend a high price to go eat out, as well.

Some believe that eventually, having multiple pronouns that are beyond just he/him or she/her will be more accepted, especially because so many people are identifying as gender-fluid or non-binary. Down the road, the multiple pronouns will definitely become more normal.

Not giving two weeks notice at jobs.

Someone suggested that giving two weeks' notice at work is something that is foolish and also a waste of time, therefore, they assumed that most people won't have to give two weeks' notice when they are quitting a job.

However, others argued that giving two weeks is a courtesy to your employer.

Virtual reality sex.

One person suggested that in the future, virtual reality sex with strangers will become acceptable. While we may not do it now, virtual reality and modern technology will maybe make it possible to do the nasty with strangers, but online. Like, the Sims, for us.

Owning a canoe or a kayak.

Another user suggested that owning a canoe or a kayak will become more acceptable in society because the sea levels will rise and we will be trapped in a world where there is no land and adjust tons of water due to climate change and global warming.
