Back in 2016 Angelina Jolie filed for a divorce against Brad Pitt after a major fight on the family’s private jet that was witnessed by their children.
The legal battle has since taken away the kids from their grandparents due to the major differences between the two. Brad Pitt’s parents have stated that although they “lived for their grandkids,” they have now been unable to see them for eight years because of the divorce.
The actors have six kids between them

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith actors have six children between them: Maddox, who is 23 years old, Pax, 20, and Zahara, 19, are adopted children as well as their daughter Shiloh, who is 18 years old, and their 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
The grandparents have not been able to see the kids

A source told the Daily Mail that, “Brad Pitt’s parents have not been able to see their beloved grandchildren for around eight years amid the ongoing divorce and legal battle between Brad and Angelina.”
The pair, whose son is now estranged from his kids, had had an active role in their grandchildren’s lives.
The family enjoyed spending quality time together

The source continued saying, “Prior to the separation, they were a part of the kids’ lives and they all spent a lot of time together.”
“It is just heartbreaking to see that this is no longer the case,” they added.
Estrangement from their grandkids is tough

“It is one thing for the kids to not see their father, but for Jane and Bill to not have any contact with their precious grandkids is sad. They are in their 80s and to think that they would never be able to spend time with the kids again is just unbelievable,” the source reiterated.
The family was last seen together in 2014

Last time the grandparents were seen with their grandkids was in 2014 when Pitt took the family to the premiere of Jolie’s movie, Unbroken, after the actress’s absence due to illness.
Jane Pitt expressed her love for Jolie at the time, “We’re so very proud of Angie. This means so much to our family, especially our grandchildren. We love her dearly.”
The Maleficent actress feels the same way

Jolie has also stated that she feels nothing but love from Pitt’s parents, “When I first met them I came in with two adopted children from other countries and I didn’t know how they were going to be, but they are equally loving with them.”
While the couple have separated there are still disputes

Three years after filing for divorce and being declared single in 2019, the couple still have disputes regarding their Chateau Miraval estate.
The relationships between Pitt and his children have also taken a hit as he has gone “virtually no contact” with his eldest kid.
Three of the children filed to change their last name

With the deterioration of their relationship with their father, Zahara, Vivienne, and Shiloh have all filed to remove the last name ‘Pitt’ from their name.
This situation along with the torn family have of course caused heartbreak for Pitt’s parents.
Jolie has been accused of worsening their relationships

The Tomb Raider actress has been accused of playing a role in the broken relationship between Pitt and his children, having been said to encourage them to avoid him.
However, a source said that Pitt “believes that, in time, his children will come back into his life.”
The former couple still have disputes over their estate

After Jolie sold her share of the two’s French vineyard, Pitt filed against the move saying they had agreed to offer the other person the right of first refusal.
Although Jolie filed motions claiming that agreement was no longer valid, those motions were dismissed and the two would go to court again next year, after the whole legal battle had started back in 2016.
