It’s been the best of times and the worst of times for Billie Eilish lately.
During her acceptance speech at the Brit Awards, she admitted that she’s been feeling “very hated recently.”

Despite winning several awards lately, 2020 has been off to a rocky start for Billie Eilish.
The 18-year-old singer recently told BBC Breakfast that she’s no longer reading Instagram comments because it was “ruining her life.”
“I stopped two days ago. Literally, two days ago. I stopped reading comments fully,” she said this past Tuesday.
A lot of the hate she’s been receiving lately stems from the major wins she made at this year’s Grammys.
If you remember, the “Bad Guy” singer took home *five* Grammys, including Best New Artist, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year.
She even made history as the youngest person ever to win the four main categories at the Grammys.
“It’s way worse than it’s ever been right now,” she told “BBC” reporter, Louise Minchin.
“It’s weird: the cooler the things you get to do are the more people hate you. It’s crazy.”
She continued:
“It’s a bunch of trolls. And the problem is a lot of it is really funny. I think that’s the issue. That’s why nobody really stops: because it’s funny.”
“Also, I would say it’s anything for a joke. Say anything to make somebody laugh.”
“I experienced that growing up: I’d say things that I thought people would laugh at and then later I would realize that wasn’t a cool thing to say.”
Eilish said that she can’t believe it’s taken her this long to stop reading comments.
“It’s insane that I have even been reading comments up until this point,” Eilish said.
“I should have stopped long ago. The problem is, I’ve always wanted to stay in touch with the fans and keep talking to them — people have ruined that for me. And for them. They’ve ruined it for them and that sucks.”
“I still try to ‘like’ fan posts or whatever and especially if I see fans anywhere, I just want to talk to them and be around them because they’re people.”
She continued:
“They’re me. They’re me. They’re like other mes. And so, they’re like friends of mine but, yeah, the Internet is ruining my life. So, I turned it off.”
That wasn’t the only time Billie spoke out about the hate she’s been receiving lately.
When she won Best International Female at the 2020 Brit Awards, she used her acceptance speech as a chance to get vulnerable with her fans.
She began by thanking her team for all that they do and shared some love to the other nominees.
This included Lizzo, who stood up and yelled, “I love you!” after Billie accidentally said her name instead of the word “London.”
Then, she got serious and said, “I also just want to say something that I was thinking two seconds ago.”
“I felt very hated recently,” she said, drawing out emotions from the crowd. “And, when I was on the stage and I saw you guys all smiling at me…”
What the young singer said next caused her to tear up on stage. “It genuinely made me want to cry.”
“And I want to cry right now,” she said, as her voice started to break. “So thank you.”
The award wasn’t the only major win for the singer that night.
She also got to debut the new James Bond theme “No Time to Die” for the first time live.
While doing so, she nailed the high note that she had been worried about earlier.
She had called it “terrifying.”
“I’m just nervous to hit the belt, to hit that high note,” Billie said. “I’m terrified. First time ever, so please take it easy on me, I’m scared.”
