A woman’s hilarious story from her time as a babysitter for a neighbor’s kid went viral recently. The user, who goes by SeenAsYouAsked , poster her TikTok earlier this month. It’s since been viewed over 2 million times.
Which makes sense because it’s such a strange yet incredibly funny tale . All because she inadvertently kidnapped a child (but it weirdly worked out in the end).
In the video, the user shares her “biggest mistake.”

Like the other videos on her relatively new account, this one is translated into BSL (British Sign Language) in a separate upload , which is a nice way for the user to make her content more accessible to more people.
As for the story itself, it definitely takes some unexpected turns.

“I was like 20 years old,” she says in the video. “Newly married, lived next door to a family with a toddler, he was like 2. And I used to look after him sometimes, babysit for a couple of hours.”
The mom asks the user if she’d look after her son overnight.

“I said ‘yeah, no problem, we know each other really well that would be great. Problem is, I’m actually going on holiday on Tuesday for a week.'”
“And she said, ‘Yeah, yeah, that’s fine.'”

“We did not communicate properly,” the woman continued. She then explains how the kid came over without a hitch on Monday, and come Tuesday they packed him in the car and brought him with them to London from their home in Birmingham, UK.
So they get to the hotel and get a cot for the boy.

“I bought him food and extra nappies [diapers], [the mom] hadn’t sent enough nappies for the week.” According to the user, the boy had a pretty fun day while on vacation with her and her husband.
“This was like, 1991, so there were no mobile phones.”

Because the user didn’t know her neighbor’s phone number (since they could just drop by to see each other), she bought and sent postcards to the mom so she’d know what her son was up to each day.
When they get home, the mom is all smiles and happy to see her son.

“She says, ‘I do have to say something, though. When I said that’s fine, I meant I’ll come back Tuesday morning before you go and get him.'” And not that she was fine with them going on vacation.
Luckily for the user, she thought to send the postcards.
The realization was pretty embarrassing for her, but the mom was surprisingly fine with the whole thing. “She says, ‘No, I had a great time, thanks. Lovely break for the week!”
The commenters were completely amazed by the whole story.

One user commented, “But like. How sweet is it of you to just take their kid with you on YOUR Vacation. I have good friends but sheesh. I need friends like you.”
The miscommunication was real, but it all worked out really well.

Another commenter wrote, “The mum got a much needed break by the sounds of it and the kid had an amazing time. Sounds like it all worked out for the best.”
