It’s been a stellar week for advancements in space research, from the release of the James Webb Telescope images to today, the 53rd anniversary of the moon landing, we have so many reasons to celebrate space!
Famed astronaut Buzz Aldrin is getting in on the celebrations by hosting an auction where he’ll be offering a number of artifacts from his journeys to space for people to bid on.
Pieces of space exploration history will be up for auction soon.
Buzz Aldrin, the second person to ever walk on the Moon, will be auctioning off memorabilia and artifacts from the Apollo 11 and Gemini 12 missions on July 26.
The action is titled ‘Buzz Aldrin: American Icon’.
It will be hosted through Sotheby’s, who made the announcement on their Instagram just yesterday.
Some of the items featured are one of the jackets Aldrin wore to the moon, a lunar surface checklist, and a “Go Army, Beat Navy” banner he brought with him on the Gemini 12 space walk.
The auction also includes some of Aldrin’s more earthly possessions.
Such as his MTV VMA award and his Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Outside of the auction, he’s selling some other items to celebrate the 53rd anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, including 53 signed copies of the now-vintage LIFE magazine that was published about the moon landing.
Both Aldrin and Sotheby’s are excited for the auction.

On their website , Sotheby’s wrote, “Sotheby’s is proud to present an array of items from legendary Apollo 11 Astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The items include pieces which were instrumental in the Apollo 11 mission, storied ephemera from Buzz’s time in space, and clothing worn on lunar missions.”
This auction comes just a few days after the official anniversary of the moon landing.
Which is today! On July 20, 1969, man set foot on the moon for the first time ever. Clearly Aldrin is in full celebrating swing.
As he wrote in his 2016 memoir ‘No Dream Is Too High’, “One truth I have discovered for sure: When you believe that all things are possible and you are willing to work hard to accomplish your goals, you can achieve the next ‘impossible’ dream. No dream is too high!”
