There are plenty of makeup staples out there, but lipstick is arguably the most popular one. Lipstick can really frame your face and draw attention to it. You can wear it on its own without any other makeup, or use it to pull your look together. It’s just so versatile, and there are so many colors to choose from!
While lipstick is super fun, it doesn’t come without its problems. It bleeds, it stains shirt collars, and it can even dry out your lips. But with problems come solutions!

Your lipstick transfers to your teeth.
The great thing about lipstick is that it draws positive attention to your lips. The bad thing about this is that it draws attention to your mouth, a.k.a your teeth. And oftentimes, we see people with small nicks of lipstick on their two front teeth.
To prevent this, open your mouth just wide enough to fit your index finger, and with a clean finger, simply stick it in and drag it out. Now all that lipstick that would have ended up on your teeth is long gone!
Your lipstick is drying.
This is especially true of matte formulas. The whole point of matte lipsticks is for them to dry down, which can actually dry your lips out.
If this happens to you, moisturize your lips with some lip balm, and when your lips have dried and soaked up all that good moisture, go for a more creamy lipstick formula.
Your lipstick doesn’t last.
Whether it just simply starts fading or comes off when you eat or drink, there are a couple simple solutions.
For one, try filling in your whole lip with liner — it offers a barrier between your lip and lipstick.
The second trick is to set it with a very light dusting of setting powder.
And the third trick is to simply reapply your lipstick and drink with a reusable straw.
Easy!
Your lipstick bleeds.
This one is super common and annoying!
There are a couple things you can do. You can either use a lip liner in a similar shade as your lipstick color, or you can use some concealer to create a barrier.
I personally like using a lip liner, and it works well!
Your lipstick is too runny.
At this point, it’s not even that your lipstick is bleeding — it is straight up borderline dripping off your lips! This can especially be the case in the hot summer months.
Simply use a cloth or tissue to lightly blot your lipstick application. It won’t completely remove your lipstick, so don’t worry, but it will soak up some unnecessary drippage.
Your lipstick completely broke.
Whatever you do, don’t panic! Your lipstick might not be dead after all.
Before you toss it in the trash, try these quick fixes.
Carefully melt one end of the lipstick by a flame and stick it back on the piece left in the tube. Place it in the fridge for about half an hour, and it should be good to go!
You can also try melting the whole stick and repotting it in a small container. You can find these at the dollar store.
Your lipstick actually just won’t come off.
Sometimes, you finally find a long-lasting lipstick that will solve all of your lipstick problems. Except that it ends up creating a lipstick problem all on its own. It won’t come off!
Some grease should do the trick, and not real like food grease. Leave some Vaseline or olive oil on your lips for several minutes, and wipe off with a cloth. Your lips will rehydrate, too!
Your lipstick sinks into your lines and dry patches.
As someone with extremely dry lips and visible lines, this is why I avoid wearing lipstick.
People like me should invest in a good quality lip exfoliator. I like the ones from Lush because they’re edible tehe.
After you’ve exfoliated your lips, they should be a bit easier to work with when applying your lipstick!
