When TikTok user Colleen Le learned that her boyfriend was suffering from chronic kidney disease, she didn't hesitate and gladly offered herself up to be his donor.
It was a decision that she thought would unite them forever. Sadly, seven months after her boyfriend's successful surgery, he broke up with her — stating that she only donated her kidney in an attempt to make herself look good.
Let me guess: you say you'd do anything — am I right? I figured as much. That's what most people, myself included, would certainly like to think about themselves when presented with such an ultimatum.
In the United States, there are currently over 110,000 men, women, and children awaiting a life-saving organ transplant. A new person is added to the organ transplant waitlist every 10 minutes, and 20 people die every day waiting for an organ that will never come.
So upon learning that her boyfriend at the time was suffering from chronic kidney disease, Colleen decided to do the brave thing and arranged to get tested to see if they were a match.
Without a moment's hesitation, Colleen decided to sign up for the surgery. The transplant was a complete success and overnight her boyfriend had a brand new lease on life.
Sadly, not only was her then-boyfriend unmoved by her life-saving decision, but seven months after the surgery — he had the audacity to cheat on her.
Then, three months after that — her boyfriend broke up with her. His rationale behind the decision was "If we are meant for each other, God will bring us back together in the end."
In a heated argument, Colleen's ex-boyfriend sent her a message saying "You only donated your kidney to look good." A statement which she admits not only broke her emotionally, but cut her to her core.
A desire to "look good" never entered into the equation. But once she began sharing her story on TikTok, the trolls started crawling out of the woodwork.
To add insult to injury, Colleen said that she received this message during her graduation party. As you can see from her reply, she doesn't entertain fools nor the foolish things that they say.
Not surprisingly, Colleen's followers have been very vocal on the subject. "Don’t worry girl he literally cannot live without you and he has to deal with that for the rest of his life," one follower wrote.
What's truly remarkable is that throughout this stressful and heartwrenching ordeal, Colleen has held her head high and maintained her dignity. And no matter where her ex goes in life, he will never be able to escape the fact that he owes his very existence to her.
