Man Loses Friend After Refusing To Cook $120 Steak Well-Done At Awkward Dinner

Food is one of the most fundamental parts of our existence, which perhaps makes it less than surprising that it's a cornerstone of most cultures and an art form that people dedicate their whole lives to perfecting.

And when something inspires that much passion, it seems inevitable that it's eventually going to start some explosive arguments. Whether it's because a diner refuses to expand their palates at any cost or a cook is unwilling to accommodate a specific restriction, it's pretty easy for fights to start over food and just as easy for those fights to blossom into debates involving other people.

And from the looks of it, it's hard to find a better example of this phenomenon than in the aftermath of one nightmarish Thanksgiving dinner.

From the sounds of things, the man we're about to hear from is quite the gourmet.

As he explained in a Reddit post, "Steak is about the closest thing I have to a religion and I take it very seriously."

So when a friend who works at a meat distributor was able to secure what would normally be a $120 cut of A5 Wagyu beef for him, he wanted to ensure it was perfect for the 10 people who would gather for dinner.

He also made a point of noting that these would be prepared medium rare weeks before the dinner and he would have bought alternative beef for anyone who objected.

Since there was just enough beef for each person to have a two-inch steak, he also prepared jerk chicken, mandarin duck breast, and cherry jalapeno salmon.

But while this was definitely quite the feast, the chance to get a taste of high-end Wagyu beef was clearly a big attraction to those who attended.

However, it seemed that his friend's girlfriend of two months recoiled as soon as she saw pink once someone cut into their steak.

This led her to claim that the man was serving raw meat and that it should be "brown all the way through or you'll get sick."

Although the man assured her that this was how this particular cut of beef was intended to be cooked, she asked him to cook hers well-done. When he refused, she apparently yelled at him that it was her steak and she should be able to have it the way she likes.

To this, he said that she had plenty of other options to choose from and that no steak would be cooked well-done in his house.

This prompted her to get up and attempt to put her steak in the microwave instead.

But in the man's words, "I shot up and grabbed it out of her hand first at which point half of the steak fell onto the ground."

This piece was quickly eaten by his dogs, to which he said that it was at least going to someone who could appreciate a good steak.

After an awkward and tense finish to the dinner, the friend and the girlfriend in question have blocked the man's phone number and on social media. He now believes he's lost that friend completely and wonders if he was in the wrong here.

And the debate around his story quickly became pretty heated with some passionately stating the man was a controlling snob and others believing the woman was a terrible guest.

But if there was anything that the majority of users could agree on, it was that both of those things can be true and that nobody really came off well here.

As one person put it, "I can’t imagine demanding food be altered but I also cannot imagine jumping up to stop someone from nuking their meat. All that just to prove a point. Glad the dogs ate. You sound insufferable. So does she."
