Lemon Juice And Coffee Is The New Food Trend I'm Struggling To Get Behind

I think we've all learned by now that food is not sacred on social media. I mean, do I have to remind you all about the pasta chips trend? Or the woman who rinsed her ground beef? Who can forget the viral video of a woman grating a hard-boiled egg on her spaghetti bolognese?

Well, it's my duty to keep you all updated on the internet food trends and the latest is a doozy.

If you haven't downloaded TikTok, I suggest you never do.

It's a highly addictive app that shows off the latest trends in dance, fashion, and food. I swear I'll only mean to spend 5 minutes on there and soon find I've wasted 3 hours watching dog adoption videos.

As aforementioned, TikTok is home to a lot of viral food trends.

The latest one, however, is causing a lot of us to scratch our heads which is saying a lot. I mean, kids were air frying pasta for goodness sake!

In a series of popular videos, teens are adding lemon juice to their black coffee. I know, right? Sounds nasty.

The videos claim that the bitter combo will help promote weight loss.

TikToker's are mixing the juice of half a lemon with 2 tablespoons of instant coffee and hot water.

Now, experts are weighing in on if there's actually any evidence behind the drink's claim.

"The idea that combining coffee and lemon juice creates a ‘fat burning’ elixir is false. While each component may have some of their own health benefits, there is no scientific evidence to prove that the pairing of the two would promote weight loss," said registered dietician Michelle Rauch to Fox News.

"Consuming too much of this concoction can actually have adverse effects to one’s health."

"There is a lot of nutrition misinformation on TikTok and other social media platforms from non-credentialed individuals," Michelle added. "Seek out a registered dietitian or other health professionals before attempting any of these fads."

Well, there you have it!
