Winona Ryder Says Keanu Reeves Refused Director's Order To Make Her Cry

Keanu Reeves is the best friend a girl could ever have.

In a new interview with The Sunday Times, Winona Ryder revealed that Keanu once refused a director's request to make her cry on set.

We can add this to the many reasons why Keanu Reeves is perfect, special, and must be protected at all costs.

Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves friendship has always been so pure.

The actors have been friends for over 32 years!

“We met in the late 80s, like ’87, ’88, at one of the early Independent Spirit Awards at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel,” Reeves once told People.

From there, they started hanging out in the same circle of mutual friends.

They've even starred in four movies together! Imagine that!

This includes Bram Stoker's Dracula, A Scanner Darkly, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, and Destination Wedding.

When Ryder got the script for *Destination Wedding*, she made sure that Keanu starred opposite her.

“I just love being together with him so much,” Ryder said about Keanu in a joint interview with Vanity Fair.

“My love for you ...," she said, turning to the actor.

“. . . and my love for you,” Reeves said, looking at Ryder adoringly.

Could these two be more adorable?? The answer is no.

“I’ve had it forever, but now people are finally seeing it. Even though we’re in character,” said Ryder.

According to Ryder, the pair are even married!

Yep. The actress said that when they got married in the film, Dracula, the ceremony was officiated by “a real Romanian priest.”

This would mean that they've been married since 1992!

“Don’t you remember that?” Ryder asked Keanu during an interview with *Entertainment Tonight*.

“It was on Valentine’s Day," she said.

“Oh my gosh, we’re married," Keanu said.

Hopefully, both of their actual partners are okay with their marriage.

If that doesn't show their love for each other, maybe this will: Keanu once refused to make Winona cry on set.

This took place during their 1992 film, Dracula.

Recently, Ryder spoke to The Sunday Times about the incident.

In order to get her to cry, the film's director, Francis Ford Coppola, asked the cast to hurl horrific things at her.

Here's the scene in question.

In it, Ryder's character was supposed to be in shock and cry after seeing Gary Oldman’s Dracula turn into a pile of rats.

But Ryder kept having trouble producing tears.

"To put it in context I’m supposed to be crying," Ryder told the publication.

At first, Francis Ford Coppola stood off-camera, repeatedly hurling some pretty tough insults at her.

But when that didn't work, he asked the cast to join in.

"Literally, Richard E Grant, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu … Francis was trying to get all of them to yell things that would make me cry."

She continued:

"But Keanu wouldn’t, Anthony wouldn’t … It just didn’t work. I was, like, really? It kind of did the opposite."

This is just further proof that Keanu is one of the nicest guys in Hollywood.

After all, he's one of the few celebs who rides the subway and gives up his seat whenever he can.

He even recently auctioned off a 15-minute virtual date with him for charity!

This is to raise money for Idaho children's cancer charity Camp Rainbow Gold.

Despite the incident, Ryder also said that she and Coppola are "good now."

And we all know that Keanu and Winona are besties.

If there was one thing that could make her cry, it might have been the reviews for Desintation Wedding.

“It got the worst reviews," Winona said.

"That movie, for some reason, every reviewer was like, ‘This is the worst movie in the world,’ and it was really rough.”

Hopefully, the reception will be a little warmer to Ryder's new role in Hulu’s Normal People.

She will also be reprising her role as Joyce in Season 4 of *Stranger Things*.

As for Keanu, he's got bright things on the horizon as well, with the upcoming summer release of Bill & Ted Face The Music.

While we hope these two star in a movie together again, we'll take comfort in knowing they're happily married <3
