Sarah Ferguson, former wife of the under-scrutiny Prince Andrew, did a rare interview with Vogue Arabia.
In it, she discussed her marriage, her children, and how deeply she relates to the media spotlight Meghan Markle has found herself in.
It's been so brutal that she spoke openly about not being okay to a reporter who asked how she was handling the scrutiny.
Prince Harry also drafted a letter about her treatment. Basically? Leave Meghan Alone 2k20.
Ferguson is currently prominent in the public eye due to the revelation that her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, solicited a loan from convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein to pay off her debts.
Much of the criticism revolved around her parenting choices.
Some tabloids called her the "Duchess of Pork," due to her weight gain while pregnant. Others criticized her decision to leave a newborn Beatrice at home while she and Andrew toured Australia.
The interview kicked off with a tour of her jewelry collection, including showing off some of her favorite pieces.
Talk quickly turned to Duchess Markle.
"It must be hard for Meghan, and I can relate to her."
"I believe she is modern and fabulous. She was famous before. She is great. Why can’t Meghan be great? Why can’t she be celebrated?"
I'm hoping 2020 will be the year people back off of Meghan.
"Any advice for her? I tend not to give advice because it is taken out of context, but I have been in Meghan’s shoes, and I still am."
Meghan famously had a sit-down with Hillary Clinton, where she likely got more direct advice.
"There’s always a twist of negativity and it just gets so sad and tiring; it’s hard and mean. I abhor bullying and I feel desperately sorry for the pain they must be going through because I’ve been through it."
"I eventually self-sabotaged. I didn’t think of the ramifications of my actions. I was at the bottom of the barrel."
She said that she dealt with it in the wrong way, but did eventually figure herself out.
Though the journalist didn't ask about him, she chose to speak about the situation.
"When I talk about Prince Andrew, I talk about family because the last six months have been hard on the girls and me."
"To see such a wonderful man go through such enormous pain. He is the best man I know."
Prince Andrew is currently accused of having underage sex with multiple women.
It's hard to understand how she managed to side-step bringing up her own involvement with the accused pedophile.
Most people do not agree with Sarah at this point, and that's obvious from Twitter, as well as her own Instagram comments.
Which she...kinda is, if we're gonna be honest here.
"I’m blaming this journo who asked question about Meghan to Sarah to make her relevant again. And I [expletive] hate it tbh"
Other than being people who married into the royal family, their experiences are vastly different.
Sarah is not black, and thus the treatment she received is just not the same as Meghan's.
There's something so English about forgoing swearing in favor of calling someone "abhorrent."
The words may be SFW, but they still cut like a knife. Very few people were cool with this interview.
Some theorize that Sarah didn't like Meghan up until now.
This one might go in hand in hand with the clout-chasing theory. I guess we'll have to see what happens next.
