Even though it is puzzling when the dead come back to life, there is a theory that explains it well. Someone with Lazarus syndrome experiences their circulation returning spontaneously after their heart has stopped beating, even though it might appear as though some people come back to life after passing away.

The syndrome is extremely uncommon and only manifests after CPR has been given. But is that the case with the 82-year-old woman who was declared dead at the Waters Edge Rehab and Nursing Center in Port Jefferson on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. and later returned to life?

A Shocking Discovery

The discovery that an 82-year-old woman who had allegedly "died" at a Long Island nursing home over the weekend was still breathing shocked the funeral home staff, according to the authorities.

According to Suffolk County police, the woman, whose name has not been made public, was pronounced dead at around 11:15 on Saturday.

Uncertainty Surrounding The Error

It's unclear whether the woman had a medical episode that might have helped her apparent recovery from death or if her death had been incorrectly declared.

Undergoing Investigation

The New York State Attorney's Office has been given the case, though.

However, as of the time of writing this article, there's no immediate update on her condition, so we can only hope she's getting all the necessary assistance to feel better.

A Similar Incident

However, the unfortunate incident is taking place just a few days after another care facility in Iowa falsely declared a 66-year-old woman dead, incurring a $10,000 fine.

Pronouncing Her Dead

Authorities in Iowa reported that a 66-year-old woman was pronounced dead on January 3 at the Glen Oaks Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Urbandale, where she was receiving hospice care.

The 66-year-old was placed in a body bag and transported to the Ankeny Funeral Home & Crematory, where staff discovered she was breathing and dialed 911, according to the authorities.

She Eventually Passed Away

According to a report published by the Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals, she was transferred back to hospice care, where she passed away on January 5.

The Police Are Investigating

"Out of respect for the privacy and confidentiality of the families we are honored to serve, we are not in a position to comment further on this matter,"

the funeral home's representatives explained in a statement to Newsday.

Could It Be Lazarus Syndrome Or Negligence?

As much as we would like to term this the Lazarus Syndrome, it seems to be born out of negligence from those involved, as even the Glen Oaks home that cared for the 66-year old woman who died two days after the unfortunate event had been in a similar case a couple of months ago.
