Veteran actress Sylvia Syms, best known for the movies Ice Cold in Alex and Victim, has reportedly passed away at 89, according to her relatives. At Denville Hall, a care facility for persons in the entertainment sector in London, the celebrity "passed quietly" early on Friday.

Her most well-known performance was her role in the 1958 film Ice Cold in Alex, which detailed the Second World War campaign in the Western Desert.

Gained Attention For Her Role In 'Thatcher: The Final Days'

However, Syms attracted attention for her portrayals of imposing British characters, most notably Margaret Thatcher in Thatcher: The Final Days and Queen Mother Elizabeth I in the 2006 biopic The Queen, in which she starred opposite Oscar winner Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II.

She was born in London on January 6, 1934. Sylvia was one of the hundreds of kids evacuated from the capital as war broke out in Europe. She first went to Kent and then, in 1940, to Monmouthshire.

However, the veteran actress showed us in 2019 she still has her acting talents intact when she appeared as Mrs. Rawson in the BBC historical drama Gentleman Jack in 2019.

In a statement made to Sky News her children Bettie and Ben Edney revealed, "She has lived an amazing life and gave us joy and laughter right up to the end."

They added, "Just yesterday we were reminiscing together about all our adventures. She will be so very missed,” the statement continued. “We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Denville Hall for the truly excellent care they have taken of our mum over the past year.”
