2021's Dune shook the science fiction world in a big way. The film, which was directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, was based on the book of the same name by Frank Hebert. It won a number of accolades, including the Academy Award for Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects. Now, on the tail of the first film's success, a sequel is on the way, with filming happening as we speak.

The movie is being filmed on location in various countries. It first began in Italy in July of 2022, before moving on to Budapest, Hungary, a few weeks later. Now, in November of 2022, filming in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates is underway.

Last week, Zendaya posted a pic of the desert near Abu Dhabi to her Instagram story. She accompanied it with the caption, "I know I've been quiet, but I'm here, just working as usual. Anyway, sending love from Arrakis."

Dune: Part Two is set to release in theaters just shy of a year from now, in early November 2023.

Several Actors Have Joined The Cast For The Sequel

Earlier, it was announced that Elvis actor Austin Butler would be joining the cast as Feyd-Rautha, and Don't Worry Darling star Florence Pugh would be joining as Princess Irulan. Other notable stars set to join the cast are Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, and Souheila Yacoub, as Emperor Shaddam IV, Lady Margot, and Shishakli, respectively.

Despite Her Part In The First Movie Being Marketed Heavily, Zendaya's Role Was Quite Small

But in this sequel, Zendaya's character, Chandi, will play a much larger role. She is set to become a co-protagonist alongside Chalamet's character.

The sequel will also see many members of the star-studded cast returning. Rebecca Ferguson will be back as Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem will return as Stilgar, Stellan Skarsgård will once again be Baron Harkonnen, and Dave Bautista will be back as The Beast. In addition, Josh Brolin will return as Gurney Halleck, and Stephen McKinley will return as Thufir Hawat.

With Zendaya's Instagram Update, It Seems That 'Dune: Part Two' Production Is Well Underway.

An official summary for the film is as follows:

"This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee."
