John Travolta, 68, and his daughter Ella, 22, shared an emotional message on Father's Day.

Father's Day can be an emotional day for many people, celebrities included. Whether it's honoring someone important to you like Kate Hudson did for Kurt Russell, or paying tribute to someone you've lost like Lara Saget did for her father Bob Saget, there's no shortage of love to go around between families on this day. That goes for John Travolta and his family, too.

John Travolta and his family have been through a lot.

The Grease and Pulp Fiction star lost his wife Kelly Preston in July of 2020 following a two-year battle with breast cancer. The couple had been married since 1991 and shared three children together: Benjamin, Ella, and Jett, who tragically passed away following a seizure at the age of 16 in 2009.

John, Ella, and Benjamin have gone through a lot of tragedy, and their love and commitment to each other as a family is so inspiring.

Ella, now 22, shared an emotional message to her dad on Father's Day this year.

"Happy Father’s Day, to the smartest, kindest, most generous man I know. Just by being yourself, you have taught me the most important lessons in life," she shared in a post showing the family smiling together.

Her post continued.

"Thank you for everything you do and for being my friend. I love you Daddy," she wrote, alongside an emoji of a heart.

In response, John took to his own Instagram to share the photo himself with his own emotional caption.

"It’s privilege to be a father. I love you my babies. Happy Father’s Day to everyone," he wrote.

Friends and fans alike took to the comments section to share their well-wishes for John and his family. "Such a wonderful father you are- Happy Father’s Day," wrote Kristin Davis.

"Your children are such a beautiful genetic mix of you and Kelly and I’m sure she is smiling down at how wonderful you are raising them! Happy Father’s Day John!" shared a fan.
