There are plenty of people out there with first-date horror stories . Whether it be an activity that goes wrong, some severe miscommunication, or your partner not turning out the way you thought, anything’s possible.
Thankfully, this sometimes means the trash takes itself out, as one woman learned. She made a post to Reddit detailing the awful behavior or her date, and making sure she made the right move in cutting him off.
Nerves before a first date are extremely common.
All things considered, there’s a lot that could go wrong during a date! Not that you should spend your time worrying about them, but not fretting over at least one thing prior to a first date with someone new is pretty tough.
Sometimes those nerves end up being right, and things go completely south.
Like for one girl, whose date went so poorly she had to turn to Reddit to see which party was in the wrong here.
It starts with the two of them arriving at a restaurant for dinner, sitting down at their table and getting situated. She then wrote, “I say what I want and gesture to him so he can order. He orders and then pulls what I think is about 15 dollars on the table. He says ‘This is your tip. [Every time] you mess up, I take some away.'”
“The waitress looked nervous immediately.”
“I’m sitting there a bit shocked, but mostly embarrassed because I wasn’t expecting this,” the author continues. “She must have been new as well, because she did spill some drinks on our table that night, gave us the wrong food, and overall just seemed lost. He took away 13 dollars.”
She couldn’t just sit by and watch this play out.
“I asked him why he thought doing tips this way was a good idea. He said it was the best way to ensure ‘good service’. When I disagreed he said ‘Can’t always be nice to these people, it’s not a respectable job’.”
She found that answer absolutely abhorrent.
That answer was enough for her to cut the date right then and there.
“I decided then that I wanted nothing to do with him, and called the waitress over to get the bill. I slapped a 20 dollar bill in her hand and got up to pay for my own meal.”
But of course, he confronted her about it after.
“Later that night he had demanded to know why I had given her the tip despite her poor service and I told him it’s because he decided to treat her livelihood like it was a game. He said because of me she’ll never improve her service and that I’m just a people pleaser.
“I blocked him, but I’ve wondered ever since if that was really the right thing to do.”
The comments were totally in this girl’s favor.
“That kind of game isn’t even remotely a good way to ‘ensure good service’ it’s a good way to fluster your server into making even more mistakes cause they’re too hyper aware that they’re being judged,” wrote one comment.
“That poor waitstaff didn’t deserve to be treated like trash because of her job, because she was new, because she’s human and not a perfectly functioning robot. Kindness is free,” said another.
Someone who had worked as waitstaff before chimed in too.
“Absolutely did the right thing and as a former server thank you. Customers like you make the ones like him slightly more bearable. [Expletive] with someone’s livelihood does not motivate them to do better, it motivates them to [expletive] with what they’re serving you. That guy is eating a lot of other [people’s] spit I can assure you.”
