The moment after a child’s birth is supposed to be a time for joyous celebration which should be shared between those who will be involved in every aspect of the newborn’s life — mainly, its parents.
However, one new mom recently found herself celebrating this occasion alone after her husband missed their daughter’s delivery to have an affair, a decision he was later punished for by being prohibited from meeting his baby.
The unnamed woman shared the story of her husband’s infidelity online in an effort to determine whether she was being unreasonable by keeping him away from their daughter.
Posted in the subreddit r/A***********e , she explained that on the night she gave birth, her husband got a call from a female friend named Anna telling him her brother had been in a serious car accident, and asking him if he would drop her off at the hospital.
“My husband agreed, told me quickly while I was half-asleep and rushed out,” the woman recalled.
Now, some much-needed background on Anna reveals that she and the woman’s husband once dated but are now very good friends.
Despite their romantic history, the wife insisted that their relationship had always appeared perfectly platonic and admitted that she doesn’t have a problem with her husband being so close with one of his exes.
Until now, of course.
After the husband left to help Anna, his pregnant wife began experiencing contractions and tried calling his phone, but couldn’t seem to get through to him.
In the end, it was her dad, not her husband, who drove her to the hospital that night. They continued trying to reach the father-to-be while she was in labor, but it wasn’t until much later that the woman’s own father was finally able to get her husband on the phone.
And rest assured, he had his excuse already prepared.
“He finally picked up my dad’s call when I was giving birth, saying that he’d misplaced his phone in the chaos,” the woman explained online. “My dad informed him that no matter how fast he drives anymore, he’s going to miss the birth of his child.”
Realizing he wasn’t going to make it in time, the husband decided not to rush *at all* and didn’t get there until five hours after his daughter was born.
Suffice it to say, his wife was not in the mood for celebrating at that point, and she decided to go to what some people might consider an extreme to let him know he’d messed up.
“When he came, I refused to let him see our baby because I was so high on emotions and was shaking when I saw him and didn’t want it [to] negatively affect my time with the baby,” the woman revealed. “I wanted her birth to be a happy time.”
Her husband, who she said was in a “bad state,” begged to see their daughter, and so she finally gave in.
However, he was still only able to view the baby through a window while his wife held her up.
“I told him to then leave and [he’d] be allowed to interact with the baby at my father’s home when we’re both well and out of the hospital and that I was most likely divorcing him,” she explained.
Remember Anna, the friend from the beginning who basically acted as a catalyst for all this unpleasantness?
Despite this being absolutely none of her business, she decided to reach out to her BFF’s wife and make it her business.
“[Anna] said that I was being controlling and she’d never met someone as cruel as me for not letting a father see his baby,” the woman recalled. “I told her that my husband made his decision and that this was his doing not mine.”
Eventually, the woman relented and allowed her husband to spend some actual time with their child.
But she waited until both she and the baby had been discharged from the hospital before letting him anywhere near her.
“I wanted a couple days of rest and bonding with the baby since my emotions were so high and I was afraid if my husband was a continuous presence, I’d get stressed and something bad would happen,” his wife explained. “I told him as such. They spend time together, but I’m still cold with him.”
After sharing her entire story, the woman asked the good people of Reddit whether she had been overreacting in refusing to let her husband meet their newborn.
Of course, after the fact, she granted him the privilege of seeing his little girl, though he now only visits her “a few hours each day.”
“But now, I can’t help feel cruel in my actions,” she continued, “and feel like I’m depriving my baby of both her parents being together.”
Of course, everyone in the comments agreed it was the husband who was the a*****e, *not* the wife.
This user said it best when they wrote,
“Let’s ignore the fact that he ran to her rescue in the middle of the night while you were that far along in your pregnancy. Any decent husband would make sure to have his phone on him 24/7 when not at home with a wife about to give birth. As soon as he found out you were in labor, he should have rushed to be with you. He chose Anna over you and your daughter.”
But wait, reader — before you make your own judgment call, I must share the update the woman later posted to her original story because it changes *everything*.
“So the divorce is probably going to happen,” she wrote. “My brother is looking at lawyers for me.”
What could have possibly happened for her to confirm she didn’t want to be married to him anymore? Well…
As it turns out, and as many people in the Reddit comment section predicted, Anna isn’t just her husband’s best friend — she is his *mistress*.
Although it’s unclear how long the pair had been sneaking around behind this woman’s back, she has since learned that her scummy husband’s “BFF” was, in fact, much more than that.
The woman revealed she found out the truth when she called Anna’s brother after his accident to see how he was doing.
During their phone call, the brother casually asked the woman how she was handling “the split” and also asked if she’s alright with her husband and Anna being together.
“[Her brother] kindly informed me that he and Anna’s parents thought that my husband and I split when I was 7 months pregnant and that Anna and him were back on,” the woman continued. “He showed up at the hospital as Anna’s boyfriend which is why they didn’t bat an eye that he was there and not with his pregnant wife. Because apparently we split.”
So in case you got a little lost there: the woman’s husband was having an affair with his ex, Anna; he’d convinced her family he had split up with his pregnant wife; and he missed the birth of his child to be with Anna.
Now the woman doesn’t feel quite so bad about refusing to let her husband meet their baby girl.
“I will be moving back home and filing for full custody,” she shared. “I don’t want my baby growing up to be like her father or Anna. He can be fun dad or whatever it is he wants to be.”
What do you think of this entire situation? Let us know in the comments!
