One particularly chatty crow has been circulating the internet, after a video was captured of the crow asking passersby, “Y’alright Love?” in a thick Yorkshire accent.
Lots of species of birds are talented mimics.
Amazon parrots, grey parrots, parakeets, Australian magpies, and many other birds are known for their abilities to mimic sounds such as that of human speech.
However, one particular bird has been garnering attention online for its talking capabilities!
The bird in question is known as Mourdour!
Mourdour is one of the resident ravens at Knaresborough Castle in Yorkshire, and “The strange-looking bird that is black and white, is not a magpie, or a magpie crow cross she is in fact an African pied or white chested raven,” according to the castle’s website .
It also came to light that Mordor has some very impressive talents.
One couple were stunned when Mordor asked them, “Y’alright love?”
When Lisa and Mark Brooks went on their day trip to Knaresborough Castle in North Yorkshire they probably weren’t expecting to be spoken to in a thick Yorkshire accent by a bird!
43-year-old mother-of-two Lisa Brooks was floored by the talking bird, and quickly got out her phone to film the moment.
The short video shows the bird chatting away to passersby.
In the 34-second video, the delightfully chatty bird repeatedly asks the shocked onlookers, “Y’alright love?”, with some people responding with, “Are you alright love?”
The wonderfully polite bird is far from shy as it bounces around in front of its audience, repeatedly ensuring that everyone is indeed “alright”.
Lisa had been spending the morning videoing other wildlife when she encountered the bird.
Lisa said, “I like videoing wildlife and had spent the morning video squirrels and other birds,” in an interview with the Daily Star .
“I wandered over to the crow and just heard this faint call of ‘y’alright love’. At first, I thought it was Mark messing around but after a few minutes, I realized it was the bird! I found it absolutely hilarious! It must be a local ⏤ it has a proper Yorkshire accent! We were there for 15 minutes and it switched between saying ‘darling’ and ‘love’,” Lisa continued.
The talkative bird has since become something of an internet celebrity!
The footage of Mourdour the raven has been viewed over a million times! The footage has also garnered such loving feedback as:
“A sweet little old English lady must of been cursed and is now living out her days as a crow who just wants to bake cookies for strangers”.
“I’d bring that little gent a baguette every day for his sheer politeness.”
“Imagine you’re having a bad day, you need to get some fresh air. You walk to the park and sit on a bench. A crow flies down next to you and asks if you’re alright. Lol.”
I guess Edagar Allen Poe was telling the truth when he wrote, “‘Y’alright love?’ quoth the raven…”
Yes, the video has inspired many parodies of Edgar Allen Poe’s classic, and how could it not!
Hopefully, Mourdour will keep entertaining visitors to Knaresborough Castle long into the future with his wonderfully polite chatter!
