Going to the hairdresser can be a seriously stressful thing. You’re putting a lot of trust in your stylist, and sometimes things don’t work out as planned.
Other times, people try to be their own hairdresser, and that doesn’t work out either. All I can say is that you just have to leave it to the experts — the ones who actually know what they’re doing.
This poor girl just wanted some gorgeous balayage.
And her hairdresser really let her down. They should have known that this technique wasn’t within their skill set and referred the client to someone who could do this.
Hopefully, they were able to fix it!
She got her hair professionally done for the first time ever, and I have a feeling she’s lost all faith in salons from now on.
I really wish we could have seen what she asked for.
But whatever it was, I know it wasn’t this .
They always tell you not to cut your own bangs.
But what happens when even your stylist can’t get it right?
This girl asked for straight across bangs like the bottom picture, and ended up leaving the salon with the top pic.
This is tragic.
This is another example of a hairdresser having no clue what they’re doing.
Undercuts take some skill, and if you don’t know how to do them, just admit it.
Don’t completely ruin somebody’s hair just because you can’t admit you’re wrong.
And again, proof that the undercut can’t and shouldn’t be done by just anyone.
Obviously, the picture on the left is the fail, and I feel so bad for this person. At this point, would it be better to just shave the whole head?
I wonder if this girl can appreciate the irony of her tattoo right now.
Let’s hope it grows back. Just maybe not exactly like a starfish.
No, you know what? A starfish wouldn’t be that bad compared to this.
The worst part about this balayage fail is that the poor girl paid $627 for this look.
Yes, you read that number correctly. I wouldn’t even pay $6 for this.
The good news is that this style has a happy ending.
The left is the picture that was shown to the stylist.
The middle is what the stylist came up with.
The right is what happened when the mom fixed it at home.
Lesson learned: Moms know best.
At first glance, this doesn’t look bad at all, right?
Until you realize that what this girl wanted was “rose gold with some hidden low lights of pink and purple.”
All she can do is wash it dozens of times and wait for it to fade.
Barbers can mess it up pretty badly too.
Clearly, the only option after this giant failure is to just shave all the hair off and try again another time. Good for him.
It’s annoying that the person who colored this hair clearly didn’t even try to get the mermaid hair.
Why would they put color on the roots when clearly, it’s supposed to be on the ends? This one makes me irrationally angry.
This is why vibrant hair is so hard to do and should be left to people who actually know what they’re doing.
This girl’s hair was way too dark to try and reach those bright purples and blues. Better luck next time!
Then again, there are some stylists out there who don’t know what they’re doing when it comes to coloring hair.
The salon assured this girl that her hair wasn’t that dark, and color would show up just fine without bleaching it.
This picture proves that they were oh-so-wrong.
This look came close, but no cigar.
I can only hope that this would look better once it dried, but seeing how high up that uneven orange color goes doesn’t give me much hope.
Men’s haircuts seem like they’d be pretty straightforward and hard to mess up.
But this guy found out the hard way that this is simply not the case.
Serious question: What would you do if you walked out of the salon with the haircut on the left?
Obviously, you’d cry for an hour and then run to a different salon for a fix.
How could anyone mess it up this badly?
At first glance, it’s hard to see what the hair disaster is here.
But upon further inspection, you can see that the colorist royally messed up and didn’t take those blond highlights up far enough. Such a rookie move.

But can you even use the word “tried” when the final result looks like complete and total garbage? This person was not a friend.
Apparently, this woman’s husband told her he knew how to French braid her hair.
I can only imagine he knew how to do that “in theory,” because French braiding hair definitely doesn’t involve making it do an impression of that one drawer with all the cords in it.
Apparently, there’s some technique that your more ambitious barbers will use that involves fire.
However, this photo is a good reminder to ensure their skill is on par with their ambition because otherwise, you’ll end up like this guy.
From the feeling to the smell, there’s nothing good about having an inferno on your head.
It’s hard to get a good look at how this bleach job stylistically turned out, but this girl is pretty sure she did it for too long.
Not only can we kind of see why she described the results as “stringy,” but her hair is also coming out in clumps. Uh oh.
I honestly don’t know what I would do if my stylist tried to convince me that this looked “good.”
But it would probably be some healthy combination of laughing and crying at once.
The color may match what the kid desired here, but the same can’t be said for the tools involved.
Apparently, his mom got all the way through this dye job without realizing she hadn’t used hair dye at all, but spray paint.
Hope you like this look, kid, because it’ll be all yours for longer than expected.
Let’s just say this guy was less than satisfied with his attempt to cut his own hair.
From the looks of it, he was probably doing a decent job until he hit the back and his brain got a lot less confident about which way his hand should go.
This man’s girlfriend assured him she could cut hair, but I’m finding that a little hard to believe.
Even if we weren’t able to notice the patchwork happening on the back of his head, his reaction tells us everything we need to know.
This tip may come in handy for anyone noticing that they’ve started to go gray.
Apparently, there’s a non-zero chance that dyeing gray hair black can actually make it come out blue.
Granted, it’s not so noticeable that he now looks like a bottle of Pepsi Blue (RIP), but it’s something to keep in mind.
Apparently, a salon that charges about $60 per haircut thought this was the perfect style to promote themselves.
And if you’re wondering what’s wrong with the finished results here, I should let you know that this woman isn’t wearing a headband.

Again, it’s pretty easy to tell from the way this man’s hope has left his eyes how he feels about this haircut.
Fortunately, this was the result of him losing a bet so at least he knew what he was getting into.
This barber tried to get a little too fancy by having the shaver swing above his head and skim the top.
We can see the obvious problem with that little plan here, but it didn’t seem to accomplish anything before this happened. It’s like the worst of both worlds.
