Maya Hawke is fed up with her parents’ generation.
In a new interview with Nylon , the Stranger Things actress did not hold back on why she thinks the world is difficult now for young adults today.
This is Maya Hawke.
Fans of Stranger Things might recognize her as Robin from the latest season of the popular Netflix series.
She also tried her hand at movie acting last year with a brief — but memorable — performance in *Once Upon a Time in Hollywood*.
Although not named in the film, she played Linda Kasabian.
Another thing you should know about the 21-year-old is that she’s the daughter of two famous actors in Hollywood.
This just so happens to be Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke who had her together in 1998.
The now-divorced pair were married from 1998 to 2004.
They have one other child together: a son named Levon.
And, speaking of her parents, Maya has a lot to say about them.
More specifically, about their generation.
She recently told all during a new interview with Nylon .
She began by sharing some of the tough advice her mother gave her when she first began her acting career.
“Because this industry is so much tougher on women, my mom had reservations about me, not becoming an actor, but becoming a public figure,” Maya said.
“The emphasis that the business puts on your appearance, the emphasis the business puts on your age—on all sorts of things that have nothing to do with your ability to act.”
This led to a conversation about how much easier her parents’ generation had things back then when they were her age.
“I was talking to my friend the other day about this and we’re just so annoyed at our parents’ generation,” she said.
“They had it so easy. They were all just high and driving around in cool, gas-guzzling cars.”
This means that a lot of what we’re facing today was first damaged by our parents back then.
“Destroying our environment and voting for the wrong people, and having no wars and no plagues and no pandemics,” she said.
This has led, she said, to younger generations picking up the pieces.
“We’re in our 20s, we’re supposed to be having fun, and doing drugs and partying. But instead…we’re going to SoulCycle and trying to outlive our planet.”
She continued:
“We have a horrible president, and it’s just really irritating. They really [explective] us.”
Yikes! Talk about not holding back!
A lot of this anger, of course, has to do with the current state of the world right now.
Hawke is currently in quarantine at her mother’s house in Woodstock, New York.
Like many around the world, the coronavirus pandemic has affected her work.
While filming Season 4 of Stranger Things in Atlanta in mid-March, production was shut down and the cast was sent home for quarantine.
“I’m going through the five stages of grief with it,” she said.
“I was angry about it. I was in denial. And then I was bargaining: I’m going to fix it! And now I’m in resignation or whatever. I’m just sort of like, this is my new forever.”
Something tells us she’s going to have a lot of explaining to do once her mother reads the article!
