I don’t know about you, but I think clothes shopping is kind of a drag . Sure, looking at a bunch of pretty outfits is nice and all, but having to try a dozen things on just to see if any of them will fit is pretty tedious.
According to TikTok, which has steadily become the internet’s go-to place for convenient lifehacks , there’s an easier way to shop for clothes.
Or at least, there’s an easier way to shop for jeans.
Leave it to TikTok to teach you how to shop for clothes, right?
In a TikTok by Nicole Fay ( @nicolefay_ ), the user stitches another user who is teaching her friend the clothing hack.
It involves wrapping a pair of jeans around your neck.
The beginning of the video shows two women in a clothing store. One woman says to the other, “If you do not feel like trying on pants in the store, all you have to do is wrap them around your neck.”
She then talks about how they’d fit you based on how they fit around your neck.
If they overlap around your neck, they’ll be too big. If they don’t touch, they’ll be too small. And if they touch and/or overlap just slightly, they’ll be a perfect fit.
The next part of the video shows Nicole trying the hack out for herself.
She rushes out the door and drives to a store where she tries several pairs of jeans around her neck, before finding one that fits the way the hack instructs.
She then rushes home to try them on.
Lo and behold, the jeans are a perfect fit for Nicole, who’s probably as shocked in the video as we are at home.
It definitely seems like this hack has some merit.
The TikTok has since gone completely viral.
It’s gained over 7.8 million views since it was originally posted on August 16th. The video was also reuploaded to Twitter , where it was viewed 9.6 million times.
Many people weighed in on the hack.
For a lot of us out there (myself included), this was pretty new info.
“Can’t believe y’all are just now finding these things out… me too tho so keep sharing,” one user commented on the TikTok
But apparently this viral hack was actually pretty well-known.
The comment sections of both the TikTok and the Twitter reupload were filled with people talking about how they grew up knowing this. I’m not gonna lie, it’s making me feel a little left out.
Of course, this might not work for every body type.
One TikTok commenter wrote, “I don’t think it works on larger girls… tried this myself a few times, pants were still too small.”
Not everyone has the same body proportions after all.
Luckily, there are plenty of other ways to measure pants without trying them on.
Another way to check if a pair of pants will fit you is to compare it to put one end of the pants against your bellybutton and the other against the middle of your back. Which makes sense, since that would be half of your waist.
What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
