While we hope that most people use sinks fairly often, it certainly doesn’t mean we all understand their mechanics. While it may seem obvious for some people, TikTok user rightguyreviews recently shared a video documenting his discovery that there’s an extra hold in some sinks — and specifically what they’re for. What he discovered turned out to be a handy hack for some and useful reminder for others.
It all began with a simple question:
One day, this TikTok user was wondering what the covered up area of the sink was for, so he moved it and discovered the empty hole under it. He immediately wanted to know what the empty hole was for and decided to get answers — and he shared them.
He headed to Google.
Following the course of many before him, he decided the easiest way to solve this mystery was through Google — and he was right. He discovered that the extra hole is actually used to install a soap dispenser. So, he bought one on eBay for about $3.99 to get his own set up.
It was a super easy process.
He shows what the soap dispenser is and how easy the process to put it in the sink is. The entire process only takes seconds to be completed.
It’s a handy tool to have.
While many people keep a soap dispenser close to the sink, it can be even handier to have one installed in one. External soap can get in the way or even just make a kitchen and sink space feel more cluttered. This hack takes away extra fuss and looks pretty sleek.

Soaking dishes in some soapy suds couldn’t be easier than having the soap dispensed right into the sink with this hack. The video gives a helpful example with a dish for audiences to refer to.
Some viewers explained that the hole can be used a different way.
While this hack is a useful discovery, commenter Craig Norquay was quick to point out that the hole was originally created “so the sink can be fitted with the drainer on the left or right.”
Some people poked fun at the video.
While the hack is cool, some people were finding the wording a tad amusing. TikTok user Football 24/7 wrote, “Right guys, I’ve just discovered a new invention, not sure if you guys have heard of it before but it’s called a ‘soap dispenser’…” to call attention to how @rightguysreview is claiming to just discover the very common invention, a soap dispenser. It’s a little scary if he just recently found out about them.
Some people were so excited to learn about this hack.
One person explained, “Wow I’m 74 yet didn’t know that !! Learn something everyday, thank you!” after watching the video. While the video is captioned with, “Why am I only finding this out now,” we have a feeling that he’s not alone in this being a brand new discovery.
TikTok has become the hub of hacks.
This video adds to the growing legacy of TikTok videos that answer questions that people didn’t even know they had. Even the things that may simple to others are new discovers for people that may have different lifestyles. Mike Hunt wrote, “More people need to see this,” and we have a feeling that may be right.
