Politics are tough for anyone to understand and get a real grasp of, which is why it’s awesome that we have so much media at our fingertips to help us make sense of it, whether that media is our social feeds or if it’s content we’re consuming on television.
The Conners isn’t shying away from that responsibility in their third season.
*The Conners* isn’t a show that’s been free of controversy in the past.
The show itself had a pretty scandalous history, as it was created as a spin-off to Roseanne after Roseanne herself got into hot water with the network. They didn’t shy away from killing her character off, either.
While this was a controversial move, the show has remained very popular, and is about to start it’s third season.
The showrunner, Bruce Helford, has spoken out about what season 3 will cover.
“As far as the election and all that, we didn’t know exactly what our airdates would be for a while, because everyone was trying to figure that out,” Bruce told reporters , “but once we found out that we were going to be on the air on Oct. 28, we rushed into production to do an episode that discusses Halloween, for one thing, because Halloween won’t be the same this year.”
“So the Conners are going to find a way to make it right,” he continued.
“And maybe it will give families a way to kind of figure out how to do it a little better at their own homes without being able to go out and trick-or-treat because of COVID,” he continued.
Then he mentioned that the show would not be staying away from the election either.
“And we’re going to be discussing the polarization in America and what’s going on before the election.”
“So we’re going to be very much on top of all of it,” he said.
What do you think? Are you excited for The Conners to cover the election, or do you think sitcoms should stay out of politics? Let us know!
