The Teenagers Were Harassing An Older Man
He explained using his Instagram stories how he was returning home on a train after watching the New York Giants NFL playoff game at a club when he noticed “this older gentleman was being hassled by this group of seven or eight youngsters,” weatherman Adam Klotz, 37, appeared bruised and battered.
They Beat Adam To A Pulp
Adam was like, “Yo, guys, cut that out,” However, they concluded Adam would receive it if the older man did not. Klotz described how much they beat him.
The Time Of The Event
According to police sources, the meteorologist challenged the teenagers at about 1:15 in the morning when they were both reportedly smoking marijuana.
The Kids Were Apprehended
According to a police source who spoke to the New York Post , three of the teenagers—two of whom were 15 and one of whom was 17—were apprehended by police who took their information and phoned their parents to come to pick them up early on Sunday.
On His Way Back From Watching A Match When It Happened
After watching the New York Giants NFL playoff game, Adam was on his way home when he noticed the teenagers and the older man.
Thanks To Adam, The Old Man Was Unharmed
He was merely trying to help, but the lads took it out on him. Klotz claimed that the older man he was defending was unharmed and in good condition.
Juvenile Report
A representative for the NYPD told the NY Post on Sunday that juvenile reports had been made, and their parents were contacted to pick them up.
Had Visible Wounds
The weatherman explained that his wounds would heal even though his face was visibly bruised and sore, and his eyelids were red and purple.
“I got X-rays. I’m OK. This is all going to heal. So, it’s all good,” he said.
He Described Them As Children
“My side is so much worse than my face, and the thing is, the other guy is not really a guy. It’s children. Five or six children.'”
Is Klotz Aware They Were Freed?
Although the NYPD appears to have caught three adolescents, the other teens escaped. Although Klotz claimed on camera that some of the adolescents were “grabbed,” it is unclear whether he was aware they were freed.
Why Were The Teens Not Charged?
However, an NYPD spokesman said on Sunday that the department could not do so due to the suspects’ ages and the fact that the offense appeared to be a misdemeanor.
What’s Next In The Case?
Before getting involved, the Department of Probation must receive a complaint from the victim, according to a representative for the city Law Department, which prosecutes minor crimes in the Big Apple.
The spokesman explained that probation would decide whether to refer the case to the Law Department for prosecution.
At What Age Can Minors Be Charged?
Before the state’s “Raise the Age” law, which went into force in 2019, the suspect, 17 years old, might have been charged as an adult. The age for children was increased under the updated law to be charged as adults from 17 to 18.
The Rate Of Subway Crimes
In contrast to the city’s overall major crime rate, which increased by 22% in 2022, subway crimes increased by 30%.
The city has tried to send out extra NYPD officers to staff stations in response to the high crime rate in the subway. According to Bloomberg , the agency is spending an additional $20 million on police overtime each month this year.
