“Dibs” is obviously a very real thing in the cat world, and I think it’s something that we as humans should really try to respect more. For instance, if your cat decides it prefers your bed over its own and has pretty much claimed “dibs” on it, then I’m sorry but you’re just going to have to find somewhere else to sleep.
One cat with this exact kind of possessive attitude went viral this month after she was photographed strongly opposing her owner’s decision to try and sit in her very favorite chair.
The stubborn kitty in question is Yoshitsune, a 5-year-old feline who’s recently staked her claim on a new piece of furniture.
In fact, according to her owner, this fur baby has a habit of deciding a lot of things are actually hers, particularly new things that her humans have just brought home.
“[She] likes new things, and is nervous and impatient,” Yoshi’s mom Reina told The Dodo . “However, she understands the words that people speak.”
Her latest obsession is a gray and white desk chair Reina recently added to their home, which Yoshi was pretty quick to decide would be *her* chair and hers alone.
However, no matter how often she lays and plays atop of it, her humans just don’t seem to understand that she has now claimed “dibs” on the fancy new perch.
Her dad in particular hasn’t gotten the message and is constantly trying to sit in her chair, which Yoshi is most definitely not O.K. with.
A series of photos shared to Twitter and Instagram on May 8 show the great lengths Yoshi will go to in order to prevent her dad from sitting down.
In the first picture, she simply looks stunned that he would even attempt such a thing and has placed her paw on his back in protest to let him know he’s making a big mistake.
In the second photo, her message clearly isn’t getting across so she’s resorted to making what I can only assume was some ungodly cross between a wail and a whine as she begged for her onlooking mom to do something about all this.
Whether it’s the noise, the dramatic face, or the combination of the two, Reina says Yoshi’s tactics usually do the trick and her dad will find somewhere else to sit.
Of course, her obsession will only last as long as the chair is still considered “new”. Once her parents bring some other piece of furniture into the house, Yoshi will forget all about her favorite chair and stake a claim in the latest addition to their decor.
