Being a single mother can be incredibly challenging. All single mothers will attest to the fact that having to be two parents in one can be draining . However, nothing is harder than when our children experience the true feelings of not having a father around all of the time. There are many things that dads are invited to, celebrated for, or even mentioned that can leave a void in our kid’s hearts.
During school events, there are many times when dads are honored, mentioned, and invited. This can be hard for those kids who do not have a dad in their lives on an everyday basis. Sometimes, it can also be hard to see their friends doing things with their parents and missing that person in their life.

The Single Mother Dressed Up As Her Son’s Father So He Would Not Be Left Out.
Many times in school events, there are specific days dedicated to parents. For example, when Father’s Day rolls around, or Mother’s Day, schools like to honor both mothers and fathers in a child’s life. This can be a wonderful experience for some students, however, not all students have their parents in their lives.
The single mother noticed this , and instead of allowing her son to feel singled out, not included, or even sad, she decided to take on the role she always has—as both his mother and his father.
While Some Were Touched By This, Others Thought There Were Other Ways To Go About It
One Reddit user pointed out that there may be other men in the boy’s life who are positive role models and who could have gone in place of his father—rather than the mother dressing up as a male role model for him to attend the event.
Another Mother Pointed Out She Would “Never Do This”
Another single mother chimed in saying that her daughter’s school had never done an event like this before, however, if they had, she would not dress up and do this. She claims that it would be better to send another male role model.
One Reddit User Also Shared A “Better” Way to Handle Parental Events
One Reddit user shared that her own mother, who is a teacher, realized not all of her students come from the same background and have the same “nuclear families.” So, to handle this, she rephrased the “mom” and “dad” events and creations, just labeling things for “a loved one.”
