Although it may not be #ThrowbackThursday, it’s always a good time to revisit past Hollywood relationships.
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe were one of the “It” couples in Hollywood, starting in 1997 when they met at Reese’s 21st birthday.
“I don’t know what came over me — maybe the seven Midori sours — but I told [Ryan], ‘I think you’re my birthday present,’”
Reese admitted to Jane magazine in 1998.
The pair started dating soon after and got engaged a year later.
Reese was pregnant with their first child, Ava, when they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Charleston, South Carolina.
Four years after this, they welcomed their second child together, their son Deacon.
When the pair split in 2007, they blamed immaturity as the cause.
“I think more of the problem was age. When we got together we were so young,” Ryan told Larry King at the time.
“I think it can create issues with two people in this industry because there’s so much noise that goes along with it.”
Reese echoed a lot of the same things in 2017.
Which if you ask me, proves just how mature they are in real life, since they can speak so logically about it all.
“I got married when I was 23 and I had two kids by the time I was 27,”
She told ITV’s Lorraine .
“So I don’t know, you know, sometimes it’s good to know yourself,” Witherspoon shared.
Although they’re no longer romantically intertwined, they stay in touch for their co-parenting roles.
Recently, the family got together to celebrate Deacon’s 18th birthday. This led to that rare picture of them posing together at dinner with their son in the middle.
Both actors shared touching birthday tributes to their son.
“Happy 18th birthday to our gorgeous, smart, talented, and caring son,” Ryan wrote on Instagram. “You are a true light in this world and are so loved by all who know you.”
“We are lucky to be your mom and dad. Love you, pup..(I’d say we did pretty good @reesewitherspoon).”
“So proud of our boy … I mean our ADULT Son!” Reese commented on Ryan’s post with a shocked face emoji and a heart.
“Thanks dad!! I love you,” Deacon commented.
Meanwhile, Reese shared several snapshots of Deacon throughout the years, including one of him as a little boy.
Ugh, my poor heart can’t handle this.
“How did this happen?!! @deaconphillippe is 18?!!” she captioned the photos.
“One day he was trading Pokémon cards, singing Bruno Mars songs, and playing American Ninja Warrior in the backyard.”
Deacon felt the love from his mom, writing “Love you mom!!” on her post.
Fans and celeb pals also had a lot to say about Deacon’s transformation.
“Whoa!! Happy birthday Deacon!” wrote Reese’s pal and The Morning Show co-star, Mindy Kaling. On Ryan’s post, one person commended the parents for their co-parenting.
“What a testament to the love & support you’ve both provided. Beautiful family inside & out,” they wrote.
Over on Twitter, people discussed which parent Deacon looks more like!
“He has his moms eyes and eyebrows,”
One wrote . “He looks like dad!” another wrote .
“A perfect mix of the two,” a third added.
A lot of people also discussed how good Ryan still looks.
“WHY HAS THAT MAN NOT AGED? He still has frosted tips!!!!!!” one woman commented.
“D**n Ryan is still a smoke show,” another added .
