Holiday-themed radar speed signs in a Vermont town are reminding local drivers to slow down — and that Santa is always watching.
According to the Boston Globe , the Chester Police Department recently shared photos of the unique signs online that tell motorists whether they’re being “naughty” or “nice”, depending on just how fast they’re going.

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season can sometimes mean some reckless drivers hitting the roads at top-speeds.
Whether they’re rushing to make it to dinner or trying to get some last minute Christmas shopping done, these drivers can make roads and highways incredibly dangerous to travel on.
According to the National Safety Council , the Christmas and New Year holidays see an increase in traffic-related offences, as well as an increase in accidents and fatalities.
Although exact numbers vary from year to year, an average of 343 people die in traffic deaths each year at Christmastime.
In an effort to got motorists to not only be conscious of their speeds during the holiday season but also slow the hell down , Chester Police installed their humorous radars all over town.
The department posted photos of the signs positioned on Route 103 to their Facebook page.
In the now-unavailable post, Chester police wrote that the request for the unique signs came “direct from the North Pole to remind everyone that Santa is still making his list and checking it twice.”
If someone is driving under the speed limit, the sign is green and the word “nice” flashes. If they’re over the limit, the sign turns red and they’re told that they’re being quite “naughty” instead.
There are a total of five “naughty or nice” radar signs currently positioned around the town of Chester.
Detective Adam Woodell said the idea for the holiday-themed radars came from the town clerk who had noticed similar signs in another Vermont town, Manchester.
So far, reactions to the cheeky signs have been incredibly positive.
Woodwell said they’ve caught the attention of many drivers, and one older gentleman has even called into the police department to say “he had the giggles that he’d been called naughty at his age.”
