Losing the love of your life is undoubtedly one of the hardest things any human has to endure. I can’t imagine dealing with the grief personally, let alone publically as well. However, as members of the Royal family know all too well, personal matters are rarely ever private.
Now, HRH Queen Elizabeth is speaking about her late husband Prince Philip for the first time in public since his passing.
Tragedy struck the Royal Family earlier this year when it was announced Prince Philip had passed away.
The Royal Family announced the news on social media.
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” the family’s statement read.
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”
The statement concluded: “The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
Hearts broke around the world for the family, and for HRH The Queen, who had been married to Prince Philip since 1947.
Now, HRH is speaking publicly about her late husband for the first time since his passing in April.
While attending the opening ceremony of the sixth session of the Scottish Parliament, the Queen recalled her “happy memories” in the country with Prince Philip.
“I have spoken before of my deep and abiding affection for this wonderful country, and of the many happy memories Prince Philip and I always held of our time here,” she told the Scottish Parliamnt.
“It is often said that it is the people that make a place, and there are few places where this is truer than in Scotland, as we have seen in recent times,” she said.
“Today is also a day where we can celebrate those who have made an extraordinary contribution to the lives of other people in Scotland, locally or nationally, during the COVID-19 pandemic,” HRH continued.
“We all know of the difficult circumstances that many people have encountered during the last eighteen months. However, alongside this, there have been countless examples of resilience and goodwill.”
I’m sure it’s so difficult to be in Scotland without her late husband, but she still managed to give an inspirational message.
