Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is bringing the prices of its signature fired chicken all the way back to 1972 to celebrate the restaurant chain’s 50th anniversary.
You’ll likely recall that Popeyes caused a frenzy back in 2019 when they released the chain’s first chicken sandwich, which immediately started selling out everywhere it was available. And while that made it quite an accomplishment to get one , the frustration at missing out apparently inspired at least one customer to file a lawsuit .
And sure, the hype from that release has since died down enough that you can get one essentially whenever you want. But it also seemed to inspire a streak of generosity from the restaurant that allowed DoorDash users to get the sandwich for free for a limited time.
But now that Popeyes is celebrating its 50th birthday, it seems that this generosity is now extending to the item that put them on the map.
Starting on June 12 and going until June 19, Popeyes will sell its fried chicken for only 59 cents.

As People reported, that price struck the restaurant chain as the perfect way to celebrate their 50th anniversary because that’s how much it cost to buy two pieces of chicken back when the first Popeyes opened in 1972.
And for that reason, only two-piece orders of chicken will be affected by this promotion.
But before you walk into a Popeyes location and find that the chicken costs as much as it always did, there are some other conditions you should know about.

This promotion is only available through mobile orders using either the Popeyes app or the restaurant’s website and is included in orders that cost a minimum of $5. Indeed, it turns out you can’t just order the 59 cent chicken by itself.
And according to Today, that minimum order price climbs up to $10 if you’re a Los Angeles resident.
Nonetheless, it’s a promotion that Popeyes fans will be able to take advantage of all week once the anniversary rolls around on Sunday.

And this throwback to the old days is only the beginning because as the month continues, Popeyes is gearing up to announce more ways to celebrate the fact that they’ve been in business for half a century.
They’re keeping mum about what other deals could be in store for customers, but it’s hard to imagine what else could excite us as much as saving money.
This announcement came a month after the brand launched another limited-edition special in the form of a buffalo ranch chicken sandwich that was made available nationwide.

This idea built a little on the sandwich that drove everyone crazy two years ago by adding a mix of buttermilk ranch and buffalo sauce.
And that one is still available just in case you’re wondering what to order to make yourself eligible for the minimum needed to get your 59 cent chicken.
