So many delicious meals on TikTok and Instagram make our mouths water. After seeing someone else eat something that amazing, we immediately head to our kitchens and want to recreate it for ourselves.
However, not everyone is Top Chef material. One thing that everyone seems to struggle with is a poached egg.
Poached eggs go on some incredible dishes
Between cooking shows and social media, we’ve all seen some amazing breakfast ideas with a poached egg. Everyone knows that there is no better way to enjoy an avocado toast. Of course, there’s a good, classic eggs benedict, too.
And, let’s not forget the way that people are making poached eggs with the chili crunch on top lately — it’s *chef’s kiss* beautiful.
But making poached eggs is an art
If you’ve ever tried to poach an egg, you’ll know it’s no easy task. Most times, the egg breaks, or you don’t cook it long enough. But mostly, we overcook the poached eggs for fear that we’ll undercook them.
Then, we’re stuck with basically a half hard-boiled egg and it just doesn’t hit the same when the yolk doesn’t ooze out on the plate.
Most people mess it up
It’s safe to say that because it’s so difficult to make poached eggs, nine times out of 10, we mess it up entirely.
There’s nothing worse than wasting food, but when it isn’t right, it has to go straight into the trash. Wouldn’t it be great if we could perfect the poached egg every time we wanted to make them?
Fortunately, TikTok is here to help
Recently, TikTok user Dana Rebecca Designs uploaded a video of her mom, along with a bomb cooking hack that will keep your poached eggs perfect every time you try to make them. And, you don’t even have to use a pot to do it. I’m sold, immediately.
First, grab a small bowl
You can use a small class Tupperware or even a small mixing bowl if you have one. Then, crack your egg right into the bowl — easy so far, right? Next, add some water. You don’t need a lot, but according to Dana’s mom, just enough to cover the yolk.
The best part? No stove
Instead of cooking your egg in a boiling pot of water and breaking your yolk, you just pop the bowl into the microwave. Dana’s mom said you can do between 36 to 45 seconds to fully poach your egg correctly.
Take it out carefully
Once your time is up, you must remove the small bowl carefully, as the water will be pretty hot. When removing your perfectly poached egg, opt for a larger spoon so you don’t accidentally break the yolk in the bowl.
And — boom — perfect egg!
As Dana’s mom shows in the video, you come out of this simple hack with a perfectly poached egg. It’s the best way to eat your avocado toast in the morning if you want to feel like you’re that girl. But, you know, the lazy version because no one wants to grab pots and pans so early in the a.m. — am I right?
However, you can use a pot if you must
TikTok has blessed us with other ways to easily poach an egg if you want to get really into it.
Some content creators on the app have a dozen or more ways of cooking poached eggs. Like, for example, user Lifeof.alice who uses a soup ladle to hold her egg in the boiling pot of water to ensure it doesn’t break in the pot.
But most people have discovered the microwave can be our best friend
Most of us who are not professional or even amateur chefs opt for the microwave hack because, well, we don’t want to cook. Another TikTok user, Jennifer, prefers to do it like Dana’s mother does — by using the microwave.
However, Jennifer uses a full measuring cup filled with water, unlike Dana’s mom, who uses just a splash.
No matter what, we will have poached eggs for breakfast tomorrow.
