The origins of Santa Claus are a true Christmas secret. Some people believe him to be nothing more than an invention of the Coca-Cola company. Others claim that he is the jolly spirit of Saint Nicholas.
But according to the latest fan theory, Santa Claus isn’t just real – he’s also a monster from Pixar’s Monsters Inc .

‘Monsters Inc.’ is a story about (you guessed it) monsters and the world they live in.
It became an instant classic for all of us who also grew up thinking we had monsters in our closets.
It starred the hilarious duo of Billy Crystal and John Goodman.
James “Sully” Sullivan (Goodman) and best friend/partner Mike Wazowski (Crystal) work at Monsters Inc.
It’s a factory that farms the natural resource of the monster world: a child’s scream.
Every night, monsters enter the ‘human world’ through billions of doors.
Monsters Inc. supposedly takes place in a very distant future.
Using this ‘magic door’ technology, they’re able to walk from the factory floor directly into any child’s room.
It’s a dangerous job for any monster because children are believed to be toxic.
One touch can kill you.
The success of ‘Monsters Inc.’ led to a prequel called ‘Monsters University’.
As you can probably imagine, Monsters University tells the story of a young Mike & ‘Sully’ and how they learn to become ‘Scarers’.
Here’s where it all gets interesting…
The final exam in Monsters University is a variety of different challenges. One of which is called ‘Hide and Sneak’.
But when a fellow monster is discovered hiding in the chimney, the referee proclaims:
“Tough luck, Kris Kringle.”
How do they know about Santa’s chimney habits?
According to another Pixar fan theory which claims all Pixar movies exist within a shared universe ; monsters know very little about the human world.
If that’s true, how do they know about the legend of Santa Claus? How would they know to call him ‘Kris Kringle’?
Because Santa Claus is a monster!
The logical assumption is that in order for the monsters to have had this type of first-hand knowledge, Santa has to have been from their world originally.
And the magic doors are how he delivers presents on Christmas Eve.
But if Santa is a monster, why would he bring toys to children?
Well, he actually didn’t start out bringing toys – that came later.
Because according to the theory, Santa may have had a dark past.
Once upon a time, the theory suggests that Santa may have not always been so kind.
The theory suggests that ‘Santa’ actually used to be known as his mythical opposite ‘Krampus’ .
Krampus is the evil doppelganger of Santa Clause.
Only instead of bringing presents and joy, Krampus brings fear, death, and destruction.
Over time, he learned the error of his ways.
Just as ‘Sully’ did in Monsters Inc. , Krampus discovers that there’s good in the human world.
And eventually re-branded himself as Santa Claus.
Krampus then started bringing presents to the children around the world in an effort to eradicate the evil and fear he wrought as Krampus.
The fan-theory also suggests that Santa could have been the first monster to discover door technology – how cool is that?!
