Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson went through a lot in 2018.
From getting engaged to splitting up, and dropping a chart-topping song, there’s no doubt that it was a rollercoaster of a year for both of them.
Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson were definitely the talk of the town last year.

Ariana rang in 2018 while still dating Mac Miller. They split up in the spring, and she quickly started dating Pete Davidson, and they became engaged.
After Mac sadly passed away in the fall that year, she and Pete called it quits not long after.
To wrap up her turbulent year, she dropped the smash hit, ‘Thank u, next’.

The song was an anthem to all the boys she dated in the past, including Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, Pete Davidson, and Mac Miller.
It basically detailed how she was grateful for her past relationships, but was moving on.
There was little to no smack talk in the song.
And if there was, it was definitely the line about Ricky where she sings, “wrote some songs about Ricky, now I listen and laugh.”
Still, Pete wasn’t expecting the song to drop, and he shared what went through his mind when it did.

According to E! News , he did a stand-up comedy show in Boston and got real with the audience.
He made it clear that he never saw it coming.

“Here’s the thing about the breakup song. Usually breakup songs you know who it’s about but you don’t really know. That G named all of us. Bam. She named all of us,” he told the crowd.
According to Pete, she released the song just as he was about to go live on “SNL”.

“That [expletive] came out before I had to put on a [expletive] duck hat and be like, ‘derrrp here’s the pizza!’ So all my friends were there. It was a sad day. We didn’t know it was going to happen,” he explained.
Before he listened to the song, he told himself that it wouldn’t be easy to hear.

“So I start playing it. And we’re all like, ‘Ehhh… it’s ok.’ We’re like ‘Okay, it’s not that bad for you,” he added.
At the end of the day, the lyrics aren’t at all vicious towards Pete.

In fact, she literally sings, “and for Pete I’m so thankful,” which is nice.
Still, I totally get the hesitation at first. Here’s hoping he came around, considering it’s being played 900 times a day on the radio.
