TikTok is known for its bizarre and funny trends, with the latest of them being ignoring celebrities. Several celebrities have fallen victim to this trend, such as Kim Kardashian, leaving a huge gap between the views and likes of her TikToks. Viewers are now eyeing new celebrities to fall prey to their new trend to spice up their free time.
The birth of the trend
It all started when TikToker Anita (heeemaw) posted a TikTok saying: “Bruh imagine if we all just started ignoring celebrities. Like how hilarious would it be if they posted and got like 13 likes?” And people eagerly reacted to her idea.
The first victim
People who commented on Anita’s video decided that Kim Kardashian would be the first victim. When she posted a TikTok after the trend, it had over four million views but only a bit over 20,000 likes, an extremely huge difference.
Why Kim Kardashian fell victim to the trend
Kim Kardashian has always sparked controversy, and while she has a big fanbase, she also has her fair share of haters. People hate her for countless reasons, but mainly it’s because she parades around her excess wealth.
Other reasons why she’s hated
Another reason why people hate her is because of her marriage. She previously married NBA player Kris Humphries for a duration that lasted shorter than their divorce proceedings. Additionally, she married Kanye West, and haters see that birds of feathers flock together.
Questionable behavior with her children
People long believed that Kim Kardashian uses her daughter as an accessory, rather than treating her as an actual daughter. North West has been exposed to paparazzi from a young age and Kim Kardashian flaunts her in designer clothes. It was also reported that North West was rarely seen wearing the same outfit twice.
The unforgettable charity scandal
In 2013, Kim Kardashian auctioned off some of her clothes through eBay Giving Works, with proceeds going to victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The plot twist was that only 10% of the proceeds went through to the cause, and records showed that she pocketed some of the proceeds to herself.
Jojo Siwa also fell victim to the trend
The comment section in Anita’s TikTok also targeted Jojo Siwa with one of the comments, saying: “Omg yes, let’s start with JoJo Siwa.” Another said, “JoJo Siwa please.” And the likes-to-views ratio was way off, as well. One of her TikTok videos has 17.5 million views but only has 35.8k likes.
Some people don’t get it
Some people don’t understand the point and purpose behind the trend if people are still seeing, commenting, and liking the celebrities’ videos. “Us commenting is not helping,” one user said, and another asked, “Guys, I thought we were gonna ignore?”
The reason behind the trend
Some high-profile events spark the need among the audience to boycott and block celebrities such as those who attended the Met Gala due to their excessive display of wealth while countries in the world face and suffer from economic disparity.
Is it really working? Or is it futile?
Whether or not this trend will have a significant impact on the targeted celebrities will be a total surprise. One moment, people can get enthusiastic over anything, and the other, they could lose interest in the blink of an eye. The only certain thing is that celebrities will keep on providing content for people to talk about.
