Society has given birth to a lot of not-so-pleasant things: gender norms , unrealistic beauty expectations, and more.
We even have individudal humans to thanks for things like the 40-hour work week (everyone boo at Henry Ford, the creator).
For more things to be mad about, Redditors got together to discusss the 19 things they believe to be humanity’s worst creation!
Reality TV

Let’s be real: reality TV shows are nothing close to actual reality. They are usually overly edited, highly produced, and some game shows are even rigged.
Lobotomies

“Tens of thousands of people, reduced to a vegetative state for no reason. And all that not long ago, all things considered.” -u/Lobotomies. It’s even worse when you learn that the man who invented it won a Nobel Prize.
Chemical/biological warfare

“It’s more horrifying than even nuclear war, it’s also much much more available. Any idiot can whip up enough chlorine gas to harm a building.” – u/ the_clash_is_back
Family vloggers

In addition to being cringe, a lot of these parents use their kids to profit off of them. This was shown in the case of Jordan Cheyenne , a mother and vlogger who forced her son to cry on camera after their puppy died.

“It’s not a social media app, it’s a data collection/advertising agency. It’s actively being used against everyone, by multiple different nefarious groups. It makes people mentally ill. Just say no to facebook.” – u/ gypsytron
Pop-up ads

They are the definition of annoying! That’s what we get for trying to stream shows, I guess? Most make it impossible to even close them since the “x” is so small to find.
LED headlights

“How do we not have an issue with car accidents at night because they are way too bright? It’s like a whiteout and it’s even worse if it’s on an SUV or truck and also really bad when it’s raining too and the light reflects off the wet road.” – u/ Parking_Pangolin_890
Money

It’s not so much the money that’s the problem, it’s the meaning behind it. That’s because it fuels greed. This causes people to do whatever it takes, including destroying others, to get their hands on more of it.
Plastic

“It always baffles me that we have biodegradable options for things but keep going back to using plastic… the EU recently banned or will be banning single use plastics. Here’s to hoping the US catches on soon.” – u/ marcuseaton
Processed foods

As delicious as they may be, they are one of the leading causes of obiesty. They also contribute in negative ways to various health ailments, such as cancer and disease. The world would be better off without them.
Porn

“It has ruined what a good relationship should be and has given unrealistic standards for both men and women. Not to mention that a porn addiction is as intense as any other addiction. This idea that porn is good or porn work is good is completely ridiculous. It has ruined many people reputations and negatively influencing billions of others.” – u/ Marethyu_Primo
Social media

This includes everything from Facebook to Instagram to Twitter to TikTok. The addiction to these apps has impacted people’s mental health in negative ways. Plus, it gave birth to influencers.
Communism

“It’s an economic system that convinces people it will bring prosperity – while every time it’s tried, produces poverty, mass murder, and un-measurable increases in suffering – every single time.” – u/ FunkerSpelunker
Unskippable YouTube ads

Those five-second ads may be annoying, but at least they give us the option of skipping. But the ones that are 30 seconds? Nope! Even when you refresh the page, they start all over again.
The 40-hour work week

“Paired with ‘loyalty’ and really all the ways you move up in the vast majority of work culture. The industrial revolution was supposed to make things easier… not turn us into no more than the maximum output at the minimum (or lower) cost.” – u/ REmarkABL
Cancel culture

While some cancelations are completely warranted, it’s still scary to think about the impact this has on a person’s mental health. It has to be rough and extremely isolating to have millions of people wishing you didn’t exist. The culture also leaves the rest of us terrified of being next.
Beauty expectations

“Thinking that there’s a certain look that make you beautiful/handsome and everyone who’s not applying are not. Especially since most of them are things we can’t control like eye color, hairstyle (curly, straight etc), fave shape and all that.” – u/ user_that_is_trying
Cell phones

“Everybody walks around like morons glued to them. They look at them when you are talking to them, when they are at concerts, when they at bus tops, stations, cafe, down the beach. For gods sake, what is so interesting you can’t look at what is in front of you?” – u/ mrpeter7
Religion

There’s a lot of differing opinions about this. While some are all for it, this one Redditor wrote that “religion is a construct to delineate the differences between belief x and belief y and attach moral implications for not hating those that are different.”
