When you go into anyone’s home and kitchen, you are always guaranteed to find a fork — or many forks. Forks are a staple of every household, helping us eat and cook day after day.
While forks are a regularly used item in our lives for eating, there are actually a lot of other things that forks can be used for — and no, I’m not talking about brushing our hair, Ariel.
Forks happen to be useful items that can really get us out of a bind when we truly need them. And, yet, most people have no idea that forks can do so much more than feeding.
A recent TikTok video has sparked our curiosity
Shared by the channel Tips&Hacks, there are a lot of uses for a fork that we probably have never heard of or realized.
According to the video, only those who have lived over 300 years truly know all the “amazing uses of a fork.” Seeing as we have no fountain of youth around, this is all new to everyone.
First, have you ever had your zipper break?
Whether it’s a sweatshirt, a jacket, or even a dress, having your zipper break can be truly disastrous. If your zipper has completely come off, many of us struggle to get it back onto the zipper track. However, it’s not so easy. Some people give up and toss the entire thing out into the trash.
But, if you have a fork…
If you have a fork, you can easily salvage your clothing and fix the zipper. The video showcases that if you put the zipper onto a fork, you can balance it and then put both sides of the clothing item onto the zipper so it’ll all be back on track. Amazing.
You can also use forks to help you cook
Aside from eating, forks can have tons of uses in the kitchen. The video showcases that cutting green onions can be tricky, especially if you want to get even strands. But, if you use a fork, you can slide the fork down the side and create nice, long, even strands of onion, before cutting it off the stem.
They also peel garlic
Garlic cloves can be tricky to peel and dice if you want to avoid having your hands and fingers smell like garlic all day long.
However, if you grab a fork, you can easily pluck off a clove, peel it, and even mince it without touching the garlic with your bare hands. How? By using a fork to do all three.
And pluck herbs
For those who enjoy cooking with fresh herbs, plucking the leaves from the stems can be a hassle.
But if you grab a fork, you can simply use it to remove the leaves from the stem by placing them along the stem and pushing them through the top. The fork forces the leaves of veggies and herbs off of the stems and makes it a quicker process.
Forks can be used for cleaning, too
Using a fork can be helpful if you are trying to clean those hard-to-reach places, like your vents and other nooks and crannies.
Place a rag or a washcloth on top of your fork and then dust and clean the areas. This is great for air conditioning vents in your car and other places with tiny openings.
But the best of all…
Of all the fork hacks the video blessed us with, the best one has to be opening a wine bottle without a bottle opener.
So many times, we have been ready to pour a glass or two and realize we cannot for the life of us find our bottle opener. What are we to do? Not having our glass of wine is simply not the answer.
Obviously, forks to the rescue
All you need is a screw and a fork. First, screw the screw into the cork of the wine bottle, leaving a little bit of it sticking out at the top. Then, you place your fork on top, allowing the screw to be in between the fork’s openings. Then, pull the cork out, using the fork and the screw.
Cheers to that!
