Although humans are not allowed at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago at the moment, as part of Coronavirus precautionary measures, the aquarium is still busy and bustling with life—just not in the way you may think.
A group of rockhopper penguins has been allowed to explore the aquarium.
Surprisingly, the penguins seem more interested in the variety of animals in the space than human visitors usually are.
“Without guests in the building, caretakers are getting creative in how they provide enrichment to animals,” The Shedd Aquarium told the Chicago Tribune , “Introducing new experiences, activities, foods and more to keep them active, encourage them to explore, problem-solve and express natural behaviors.”
One Penguin named Wellington took a particular interest in the fish.
“Wellington seemed most interested in the fishes in Amazon Rising!” the Auariam’s Tweet reads, “The black-barred silver dollars also seemed interested in their unusual visitor.”
Wellington’s video has since gone viral.
“Thank you Shedd Aquarium for continuing to post…we need our smiles wherever we can get them,” one Twitter wrote.
It’s videos like these that keep our spirits up in such a time of uncertainty.
