I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I wasn’t born with a green thumb. As sad as that sounds, it is true. If you can believe it, I actually just killed a succulent.
I know I’m so bad, especially since succulents are the easiest plants to keep alive. So before I buy yet another plant, maybe I should consider another option. Check this out.
If you’re like me and love plants, but they don’t exactly love you back, listen up.
There is a way you can have a cute cactus garden even without using real plants. Folks like us are making them, and I’m going to show you how.
What if I told you that all it takes is a little creative project?
You can probably do this over one afternoon or have your kids help you out. And if you’re not the creative type, don’t worry about it. It’s quite easy, I promise you.
Okay, so enough stalling here, ha, ha! Let’s get right into it.
There are a few things you will need to do. First, pick up some rocks, or you can buy them in a craft store, a landscaping supplier, or go for a walk and find some in nature!
You will also need medium flat brushes, white or gray paint for primer, and some green paint in different shades.
Then get yourself some acrylic pens in green and white colors. You’ll also need some felt, glue, scissors, a decorative pot, small rocks or sand, and wax paper.
Make sure you clean your rocks thoroughly before using them.
Then lay everything out on the wax paper to protect your working surface. Now you can paint your rocks with primer, so their natural colors don’t seep through the final product.
After that, they’re ready to receive a green coat of paint.
Now comes the fun part — you can add all the little cactus details by hand. Doesn’t that sound awesome? I think this would be my favorite part, ha, ha!
After you’ve painted the rocks and added all the pretty stripes and dots, you can move on to felt.
Add some to the top of the rocks to make them look like a real cactus. Then plop them in the pot with some small rocks and sand. And… that’s all she wrote!
Oh my goodness, wasn’t that so much fun or what?
I love this idea. What a great little craft project, huh? I don’t know about you, but I would enjoy doing something like this. And finally, I wouldn’t have to worry about killing these plants, ha, ha!
So are you ready to embark on this super cool creative project?
I think this would be great if you did it for an outdoor garden, too. You can get some larger rocks and arrange them in an area in your backyard. What do you think?
