“Did your Mom ever teach you the Do’s and Don’ts for loading the dishwasher?” Unless your mom was Babs Costello of brunchwithbabs , you might have missed out on that lesson .
But don’t worry, “everyone’s grandmother” is here with an incredibly mind-blowing , life-changing TikTok that’ll teach you exactly how to load your dishwasher, so that everything comes out nice and clean .
Babs is a TikTok powerhouse.
At 73 years old, Babs has taken to becoming the internet’s grandmother, with a TikTok account that specializes in recipes and home/kitchen tips and hacks. And it looks like she has over 2.2 million grandchildren.
Recently, she uploaded yet another viral video.

This one teaches us the proper way to load a dishwasher.
The video is titled and captioned: “Did your Mom ever teach you the Do’s and Don’ts for loading the dishwasher? In our family, when it comes to chores, how to load the dishwasher is one of the hottest topics.”
“Let’s face it, everyone has their own system that they think is the only way to load the dishwasher.”

“Well, Babs’ is here to teach you the proper way to load your dishwasher so that each and every dish comes out sparkling clean.”
She first reminds us to scrape food out of plates and bowls, not rinse.

You’ll need a bit of food on there for the soap to stick.
And “don’t put things in the dishwasher that don’t belong there like wood objects or your good kitchen knives.”
Then, she shows us how to load the top rack.

She shows us how to load fragile items like mugs on the top rack, between the prongs. And small bowls go up there too, just don’t overlap them.
When it comes to wine glasses, make sure to use the stabilizer.

And unlike the mugs, they go on the prongs. But the real magic comes when she shows us that the top rack can be lowered . You push the side tabs and press down (and it’s pretty much the opposite to get it back in the same position).
After that, Babs shows us how to load the bottom shelf.

“All our dishes should face the center so that the spray arm can really get every piece clean.” Pans go in the front, and knives face down in the utensil rack.
And that’s really all there is to it.
Babs couldn’t have made it look any easier. In fact, it seems like the 4.7 million people who tuned in to watch this TikTok would probably agree with that.
Plenty of commenters were completely blown away.

One commenter wrote, “I’m sorry. My top rack does WHHHAAT?!” And that honestly sums up what most people thought about that part (myself included, because I seriously had no idea until now).
Though, others insisted that you should rinse your dishes before loading.

“I will never NOT rinse my dishes,” one commenter wrote. Though, considering a dishwasher’s job is to clean dishes, I feel like Babs is right in that there’s no need to rinse.
What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
