The erotic thriller Babygirl is set to release in US cinemas on Christmas day, and its star, Nicole Kidman, has been earning a lot of critical praise.
But one moment with the star may have overshadowed the film. At the premiere, she was seen as “rude.”
Kidman didn’t know a reporter
The spotlight was stolen from the movie, which tells the story of a CEO in a forbidden office romance, and instead set on Kidman’s interaction with one reporter.
In a clip that has circulated social media, Kidman asks a reporter to repeat their outlet’s name during the Q&A, and responds in an unexpected manner.
The actress glanced off camera
After asking one reporter to repeat their outlet’s name, she shrugged and awkwardly looked off camera to let out a laugh that suggested she had no idea who the outlet was.
While some fans found it an amusing situation that didn’t seem all that serious, others said it was dismissive of the reporter.
Kidman was unaware of Pop Crave
The reporter had been from Pop Crave, an online entertainment outlet. Many praised Kidman for being an “offline queen” as she didn’t know who they were.
But one unamused follower said, “I would’ve been so embarrassed if I was popcrave and Nicole Kidman laughed at me like that.”
Other users found it rude
Some users online found the Big Little Lies actress’ reaction to be abrupt, with one person writing “she’s rude.”
One user spoke honestly, saying, “Like lowkey the way she laughed so extremely too I’d be like nvm b—h I’m not asking you anything then.”
A few users said it was “awful”
More people were upset at the way she handled her reaction, with one using a laughing emoji and writing, “Sorry but this is f—g awful behaviour.”
One user replied to another speaking about Kidman’s laugh, writing, “Yeah I think it’s kind of rude on her part.”
Others found it amusing
Despite the criticism from fans, many others found it amusing and on-brand for the star who has a knack for being too cool for social media.
One person wrote, “HAHAHAHAA omfg she’s a legend.”
Kidman opened up about the movie
Speaking to Woman’s Day, the 57-year-old shared how she and her 28-year-old co-star Harris Dickinson worked to prepare for their roles.
Babygirl holds a lot of intimate scenes between the two, with Kidman calling those moments “delicate and intimate and very deep.”
She spoke about the intimacy
The two had an intimacy coordinator guiding them on set, but despite this, Kidman said, “There was still a flow to it, which allowed space to move and change and work.”
“It wasn’t confined, and I love to work that way,” she added.
Kidman compared two of her characters
The actress drew a comparison between her Babygirl character dynamic with Dickinson’s character to the “abusive” relationship her Big Little Lies character had to endure.
“So Big Little Lies is actually very different, but this definitely leaves me exposed and vulnerable and frightened and all of those things when it’s given to the world,” she shared.
This comes with a break from filming
The actress had told The Sun that she had to take a break in the middle of filming Babygirl for her mental health, confessing in an interview, “There was an enormous amount of sharing and trust and then frustration. It’s like, “Don’t touch me.””
