When a family welcomes a new baby, it’s always such an exciting time! New babies mean new moms and new dads, new grandparents, new aunts, and new uncles and new cousins! It’s all just so exciting, so when I heard about a woman who posted to Reddit sharing a story about her mothering showing up to the hospital with a police e****t, it all felt so STRANGE!
Reddit it filled with many stories to make you feel better about your *own* family situation.
Recently, a woman took to the site to share a very dramatic tale about her mother’s behavior when coming to meet her new grandbaby.
As she explained on the r/JUSTNOMIL forum , the original poster’s (OP) mother was angry at her daughter’s pregnancy, claiming she was making her a grandmother “too young” and telling her daughter she was “ruining” her life before asking her daughter leave her house.
“Mind you I was in my 20s, stable job, had my own home, a long term SO,” the OP wrote. “While she worked part-time and had a dodgy boyfriend.”
Soon after their altercation, though, OP’s mother changed her outlook.
“She told me she turned down her job going full time because she would obviously be looking after LO (little one)when I had him, and was extremely upset when I told her this wouldn’t be the case and that she should take the full time job. Spoiler: she didn’t.”
OP went on to say her mother was super fixated on being in the delivery room, which was not something the expectant mom was comfortable with.
“From the beginning I told her no, it would just be my partner and I and that I didn’t want anyone in the waiting room, so I would let everyone know when they could visit. I was very anxious that she was going to come in unannounced to the delivery room (only one hosp in my area) so planned on telling no one.”
The story continues: “One day when I was a week away from giving birth my [mom] rang me in a panic telling me I had to leave my house, it was unsafe and that her (now ex) bf was ‘coming to get me to get back at her.’ I said some choice words telling her to sort her life out and hung up on her and moved on with my day.”
“Later that night I went into labour and had our beautiful boy early next morning,” she continued.
“We didn’t tell anyone until we had established feeding and I’d had a shower and nap. I had a wonderful delivery and experience,” she explained, before telling readers she had allocated an hour for visitors, but was anxious that her mom would not obey her boundaries.
As it turns out, the mom did arrive on time, but with a police e****t!
“I ask[sic] what’s going on and why the officer is there and she says she’ll talk me about it later. By that stage there wasn’t long left and the rest of the visit with my family and her was extremely awkward with the police officer just standing in the corner of my delivery room.”
OP continues:
“A few days later she fills me in that the police e****t was there for her protection from her ex, who for months she tried to convince me to ‘give a chance’ and ‘he’s not actually into anything bad.’ Though she is a prolific liar, especially for attention so I have to take anything she says with a grain of salt.”
“Now when thinking of my birth I don’t just remember the lovely time with my [significant other] and [little one], I also think about all of the stress and craziness that went with it!”
Now if that’s not the most BONKERS delivery room visit I’ve ever heard, I don’t know what is!
