If there’s one thing we know about 2020, it’s that things are not easy to navigate this year. From the global pandemic to trying to stay safe, it’s been hard on everyone all over the world. If there’s group of people who are struggling the most, it’s definitely families with kids. As the pandemic continues across the world, many schools are opting for hybrid and remote learning this year.
Hybrid learning is a model in which students learn both in-person and at home.
Many schools are doing away with five-day instruction, and have students on a rotating hybrid schedule instead. This means that there are days where students are learning from home online.
There are also schools that are opting for a fully remote model.
Fully remote models have students learning from home every day, five days a week. Some families are choosing remote learning, too, because of compromised family members and health concerns involving schools reopening.
For many parents, it’s a struggle to have kids learning from home.
Many families are trying to find a place in their home to dedicate to “school” and remote learning. It’s hard to find a way to separate their “home life” from their “school life” in the same house.
Some parents have been coming up with some clever ways to make their homes “learning friendly.”
From moving things off of kitchen tables to buying desks for their children’s rooms, parents are trying to go the extra mile to ensure their kids can be successful this school year.
One mom has been going viral on TikTok for setting up a special learning space for her eight children.
Shared by her daughter on TikTok, the mom moved out couches and a TV from one of her living spaces and invested in cubicles. There are six cubicles in total, giving space for all of her children to work.
Her daughter, Jaala James, an 18-year-old college student said that the cubicles were really needed in their home.
James is currently in college and was struggling to get things done with all of her siblings. James told BuzzFeed she’s one of eight siblings, six of whom still live at home. So, she’s definitely not the only one getting her school work done.
James said that between her siblings, there wasn’t enough space at the kitchen table.
“I have ADD, my sister has ADD, my brother has ADD, and all of us are super talkative. We cannot stop talking to each other,” she said. After talking with her mom, they found people selling the office cubicles online.
They then transformed the family room into a “school office” for all of the kids to work side-by-side, with some barriers.
The walls of the cubicles help the kids stay on task and on track with their school work and gives them all some ownership over their learning spaces. Plus, it’s a great idea!
For families who are looking to do something similar, you can find cubicles anywhere they sell office supplies.
Although they can be a little pricey, some website do sell cubicles online. And, Amazon has some ways to turn regular desks into cubicles, too.
