Oakley’s oldest son, Welles, was born with Down Syndrome.
Through Nothing Down About It, Oakley is debunking what it means to parent a child with Down Syndrome.
Oakley will be the first to admit that parenting a child with Down Syndrome can be challenging.
However, she also wants to showcase how much joy and love comes with parenting these special people.
A recent video she posted has gone viral for showing exactly that.
Oakley was watching a friend’s baby and couldn’t get him to settle down.
“I could not get our buddy, baby Alek to calm down yesterday. Welles climbed up into the chair and said “mom… baby?” with his arms stretched out,” Oakley wrote in her Facebook caption.
Then something magical happened.
“As soon as I handed him over… he calmed. Welles sat and cuddled him, taking his job of baby whisperer very seriously, as I sat watching… thinking yet again… man, this kid is magical!” she said.
The heartwarming video has 14-million views and has prompted people to share their own “baby whisperer” stories.
“This is my grandson, Josh, with my great-granddaughter, Beca. They are best friends and adore each other, ” said Christine Seaton in a comment.
Other parents said children with Down Syndrome make the best siblings.
“At the time this picture was taken I was at my wits in with the newborn and I asked God to please send me some help. She walked up to me with her arms out like your son did and she held him and rocked him to sleep,” said Jada TSue Kiss.
There is something truly special about these individuals.
“We call Jimmy the baby and puppy whisperer in our family. If anyone has a problem, Jim can handle it!” said Connie Cronin.
