Miley Cyrus has shared the way she used to hide the money she would spend on drugs from her accountant, and it’s rather oddly specific.
A lot of child stars struggle with fame
It’s no secret that child stars struggle with being famous from a young age.
The amount of pressure that comes from trying to secure your career and make everyone happy while also being in the spotlight can get to you.
Many resort to substance abuse
Because of this kind of pressure, many child stars sadly resort to substance abuse.
Stars who found their fame at a young age like Macaulay Culkin, Amanda Bynes, and Drew Barrymore have shared that they once struggled with it.
Miley Cyrus sadly struggled with it too
The Flowers hitmaker first found herself under the spotlight at the age of 13 when she became the iconic Hannah Montana in 2006. And the pressure of fame eventually got to her.
Cyrus has since found her way to sobriety, but it wasn’t an easy road.
She spoke about her sobriety
The superstar told Zane Lowe back in 2020, “I don’t think that everyone has to be sober, everyone has to do what’s best for them.”
“I don’t have a problem with drinking, I have a problem with the decisions I make once I go past [a certain] level. I’ve just been wanting to wake up 100 percent, 100 percent of the time,” she added.
Cyrus had to hide her drug spending
The singer revealed that during the period where she was using drugs, which was around the time she released her album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz in 2015, she had to hide the spending information from her accountant.
She figured out a unique way of hiding it
In a recent episode of the Every Single Album podcast, Cyrus revealed, “The drugs were the biggest cost, which to hide those from my accountant, we called them vintage clothes.”
“And so she would get these checks. That happens on touring all the time.”
Cyrus recalled what it was like to handle the money
“Every time she saw me, she’d be like, ‘Where’s that, like, $15,000 original John Lennon T-shirt that you bought?’ It’s like, ‘Oh, it’s upstairs. We just really want to protect it. It’s really delicate’,” Cyrus went on.
“I bought a lot of vintage clothes that year,” she said.
The singer is happy with her sobriety
Cyrus went on to explain her relief after reaching sobriety, saying, “I’m so glad I survived that time in my life. I would definitely not encourage anyone else to go this hard, but the fact that I got through it, I’m very glad I got to do it.”
Sobriety made her learn a lot about herself
In a more recent appearance on the Zane Lowe Show, Cyrus said of her sobriety, “I need it. I live for it. It’s changed my entire life.”
She added, “I’ve learned this about myself over the years: sobriety is, like, that’s like my God.”
